Yesterday, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reported that Triple-A manager Ken Oberkfell is likely to be the Mets next bench coach.
It had been known for some time that the bench coach position would be filled internally as Terry Collins said he believed in promoting from within when asked about who is bench coach would be.
Oberkfell is a mild mannered type, who kind of blends in and prefers to stay out of the limelight. He has an excellent reputation of working well with younger players and is a big stickler for fundamentals.
It’s very likely that the Mets too will announce that Tim Teufel could be promoted to manage the Buffalo Bisons to replace Oberkfell. Teufel managed for the Class-AA Binghamton Mets last season.
There is also a good chance that the Mets will name their complete staff by today.
