I have been tossing this around in my mind a bit lately. In the early and middle part of this past decade we saw the Red Sox and Yankees universally derided for the way they were perceived to dominate the sport. At the same time we saw runs being scored at a very high rate.Over the last couple of years the two clubs have been presented with new challengers in places like Tampa and Texas. During this time we have seen a reduction in runs scored.You can kind of see where my mind was headed can’t you? Is there something about a high run environment that lends itself to creating era-dominance? This probably deserves more of a study than what I have here but I wanted to take a brief look at the issue.The first thing I did was use the wonderful Baseball-Reference and Microsoft Excel to create a chart of runs/game/team by year since 1920.
