Yesterday, I wrote about how some sources were reporting that one of the Mets' strategy this off season was to get not just one closer, but two.
This morning, those same sources are confirming that the Mets have contacted both the agents for Francisco Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes.
Bart Hubbuch of the NY Post writes,
Sources on both sides said GM Omar Minaya initiated talks yesterday with free agents Francisco Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes, the first step in a process that could soon result in a contract offer to one of them.
Adam Rubin of the Daily News writes,
Speaking to the Daily News on Monday, Minaya indicated he could have meetings with multiple free agents who play the same position. That suggests meetings with both Fuentes and K-Rod are plausible, even if clearly only one would be signed.
