In Syracuse, NY, American League all-star Clay Buchholz made a rehab start for the Pawtucket Red Sox tonight and laid the foundation for a 9-5 Sox vixtory over the Syracuse Chiefs (WAS).
Pawtucket has now won three straight and improved ot 43-49 on the season.
Buchholz pitched 3.2 innings, surrendering two runs on four hits, a walk and a hit batsman. The Sox jumped ahead with two runs in the first inning, courtesy of a home run by 3B Jed Lowrie and an rbi-double by Lars Anderson. Lowrie, who is also playing for the PawSox on a rehab assignment as he recovers from mononucleosis, added a single and double later in the game.
LF Josh Reddick (#8) homered in the second inning, DH Dusty Brown (#5) followed suit in the third, and CF Ryan Kalish (#2) went deep in the sixth. Anderson added a two run triple in the sixth as the visitors plated four runs to put the game away.
