At McCoy Stadium, the Pawtucket Red Sox offense continued to struggle this afternoon, as the Scranton / Wilkes-Barre Yankees (NYY) beat the PawSox, 2-1. The PawSox managed just 7 hits and went scoreless until the bottom of the ninth inning, when they squandered a great opportunity to (at least) tie the contest and send it to extra innings. The Yankees trio of Lance Pendleton, Ryan Pope and Eric Wordekemper held the Sox scoreless on five hits (and no walks) through the first eight innings. The Sox then eked out a run in the ninth against Kevin Whelan… but they should have had more. 3B Hector Luna (hitting .324) led off the inning with a single and moved to third base on 1B Lars Anderson’s second double of the game. But Pawtucket was unable to get the big hit they needed to tie the contest. C Mike McKenry struck out swinging. LF Daniel Nava drove home the club’s first run in 21 innings with a ground ball.
