In Allentown, PA, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (PHI) pummelled the Pawtucket Red Sox, 12-3, last evening behind the hitting of 2B Luis Maza and CF John Mayberry, and the pitching of right-hander Brandon Duckworth. The Pigs jumped on southpaw Fabio Castro (0-1) early and often, scoring a run in the first, three in the second and two more in the fourth. RHP Chad Paronto provided a pair of shutout innings in relief, but after the PawSox scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to close the deficit, “the other” Ramon Ramirez surrendered six runs in the bottom of the inning as Lehigh Valley put the game out of reach. The Iron Pigs banged out 18 hits in the rout. Luis Maza had 4 hits and 3 rbi. Mayberry had two hits and three ribies. Duckworth got the win in his first appearance of the year… he hurled five shutout innings, allowing just four hits. Phillies closer Brad Lidge, on a rehab assignment, worked a scoreless inning.
