Jesse Winker has forced me to take notice with his spectacular performance at A+ Bakersfield this season. I suppose with my new-found knowledge of just how great the Cincinnati Reds are at drafting I should have been on top of the situation already. Now I know and so will you. Winker is legit and needs to be noticed by everyone and anyone who plays in a dynasty league, his time could come soon.
Winker was recently crowned the 2014 champion of the Carolina/California League All-Star Game home run derby; this immediately tells us two things about him:
He’s playing well enough to be an All-Star
He has enough power to win the derby over some pretty legit competition.
Although he only clubbed 5 HR, he beat out Corey Seager, Jorge Alfaro, and Carlos Correa for the title. Forever innovating the All-Star game organizers chose to have the players hit from the outfield into the stands for more fan participation—yeah the minor leagues are awesome.
At 6’3 and 210 pounds, Winker isn’...

Brandon Phillips gave a Pirates fan an autographed baseball and addressed it, "Dear, Drunk Guy."
Brandon Phillips doesn't always take criticism well. At least when it comes from the media. But he always seems to be a good sport when it comes to the fans.On Wednesday, Phillips was consistently heckled by a Pirates fan who had stayed around PNC Park despite most of the crowd leaving when rain sat in and caused a delay. Because the stadium was nearly empty, the players could...
Rumors are swirling that the Reds could be calling up Jumbo Diaz from Louisville.
The Cincinnati Reds have the best third baseman in the NL right now. I am somewhat partial to Josh Donaldson over the last two years or I’d almost be prepared to say Frazier is the best third baseman in the MLB this season. This was all news to me when I was preparing to make my unbiased all-star picks for each league/position. The third base position is having somewhat of...
Brandon Phillips of the Cincinnati Reds plays the game with a smile on his face every day (unless he's brawling with the Cardinals, of course). Some baseball fans don't appreciate his friendliness, but what he did on Thursday night should be admired by all.Polarizing would be correct word to describe the baseball world's affection for Phillips. Some old-school curmudgeons...
Brandon Phillips loves to interact with fans– even hecklers, apparently.
During Wednesday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, Phillips’ Cincinnati Reds put on a clinic against the hometown team. Throughout the game, one fan heckled Cincinnati All-Star first baseman Joey Votto but after a rain delay that made most of the crowd leave the ballpark, the fan...
PITTSBURGH -- The last time the Reds had more wins than losses was at the end of last season. They'll get a chance to top .500 on Thursday.
Alfredo Simon became the first pitcher in the National League to earn a 10th win this season but it was the continued resurgence of the offense that has propelled the Reds back to even on the season.
An 11-4 win over Pittsburgh at PNC Park...
PITTSBURGH -- Winning four of six games on a road trip against division rivals is a good thing. Bryan Price had no desire to look for a silver lining Thursday.
The normally even-tempered Reds manager was furious at a pair of calls by umpires in the bottom of the 12th inning of a 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh that snapped the Reds three-game winning streak and cost them a shot at topping...
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips played surprisingly nice with a heckler during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Wednesday but got the last laugh courtesy of a bit of trolling message he inscribed upon an autographed ball he gave the apparently inebriated heckler afterward. The game was being played out […] The post Brandon Phillips gives ‘Drunk...
Nick Travieso has moved up from his preseason ranking. How has the rest of the Top 10 played out?
Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is typically considered one of the better athletes on social media, but it turns out he’s pretty damn good at dealing with hecklers as well.
BP was hearing it from a couple of Pirates fans who had drank a bit too much at Wednesday’s game in Pittsburgh and he decided to shut them up in pretty much the coolest way possible.
The story comes from...

Brandon Phillips may have successfully turned a drunk Pittsburgh Pirates fan into a Cincinnati Reds fan earlier this week. A recent story that was posted on Reddit describes a scene in which a Pirates fan started giving Phillips the business after a rain delay in the seventh inning. The Reddit user, who was the brother […]
Here are some of the storylines we'll be following Friday night on Reds Live, starting at 6:30, and during the game against the Blue Jays.
CAN LATOS KEEP IT UP? Mat Latos had a solid first start back from the DL in Milwaukee, tossing six scoreless innings last Saturday.
CALLED UP, ON THE MOUND: It will be a somewhat unknown commodity for the Blue Jays as Liam Hendricks comes...
Check out this play from Wednesday’s Reds-Pirates game. In the first inning, Starling Marte stole second base cleanly…and Brandon Phillips tagged him while pushing his leg off of the bag!
Second base umpire Jerry Layne wagged his finger at Phillips and both Phillips and Marte had a laugh about it, but could you imagine if Marte was called out? The amount of hot takes written...
