Found April 04, 2012 on Friarhood:
So here we are one day away from my favorite day of the year, Opening Day for the San Diego Padres. Every year I find my self scouring over all reports trying to find that silver lining to fool myself into thinking my beloved Friars will reach baseball Nirvana. So I compiled a list on why this, the year 2012, will be their year. 1. All odd’s against them.I just read the odds about our team compiled by AccuScore that essentially gave the Pads two chances of making the postseason; Slim and none. They have a 2.3% chance of winning the division and a 5% chance of getting one of two Wild Card spots. In 2010 they snuck up on everyone. Last year there were no surprises and Hoyer’s gambles did not pay off. Suddenly, this season they Padres are off the radar again, right where they need to be.  2. We can pitch.Even last year when our offense (should have been spelled “awf-fense) was last in about every statistical category, we seemed to get the tying run to bat in the ninth inning in what se...

10 Padres Predictions Sure to Go Wrong in 2012

It is that time of year for predictions.  I'd like to think I have a good pulse on the team, so each year I put my neck out and make predctions, only to be humbled by the baseball gods.  Here is a look at how terrible my predictions were in 2011.  For those of you that listen to Friarhood Radio or follow on twitter, these predictions will not surprise you.  It should be noted...

The San Diego Padres have placed right-hander Tim Stauffer on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Wednesday, with a strained pitching elbow. To take Stauffer's roster spot, the Padres recalled...

Richard helps Padres top Royals 2-1

Chase Headley and Jesus Guzman hit back-to-back homers off Kansas City left-hander Jonathan Sanchez with two out in the third inning. MadFriars' Interview: Everett Williams

PEORIA, AZ: Everett Williams was taken in the 2nd round of the 2009 draft by the San Diego Padres. It was a draft class that had the potential of being something special with Williams, and fellow high school stars Donavan Tate and Keyvius Sampson. Williams was ranked the #8 prospect in the system in 2010, and that’s when it went downhill.

MadFriars’ Preview: 2012 Tucson Padres

Synopsis: Offensively the T-Padres will be led by James Darnell, Matt Clark and Blake Tekotte while on the mound Casey Kelly and Joe Wieland are as good as anyone in the PCL. With the system’s all-time saves leader Brad Brach closing out games this will be a strong team as long as the talent sticks around.

95% Off: Andrew Cashner

Sing it with me everyone: Tis the season for broke closers.  Tommy, Tommy John, John, John, John, John!  That sounded great.  Except for you in the back.  Thought I heard an old mule getting strangled.  The regular season hasn’t even started and we’ve lost Joakim Soria and Ryan Madson to the knife.  Last time I checked – which was like five seconds ago so don’t even...

Daily Friar 4.6.12

Yesterday was awesome! The opening day atmosphere was great, everybody was in great spirits and we all just had a lot of fun at the game. Of course we had to deal with the Padres losing, and we had to deal with very annoying Dodger fans all game. They should be kissing our feet that they are able to come to our beautiful city and watch baseball instead of in a ravine. The Padres...

Daily Friar 4.3.12

The Padres have two days to make 5 more cuts to the team to make it down to the 25 man roster that is required for major league teams. Yesterday 4 more cuts were made, and at this point the cuts hurt even more. One of those cut yesterday was Matt Clark who had a monster spring, and if there wasn't a log jam at first base, would probably make this team. For more on the cuts check...

GIFcap: “LOL Spring Training” – Matt Kemp + Cameron Maybin kills a baseball

In the top of the 8th inning today, Matt Kemp hit an oppo bomb off Brad Brach to right in Petco Park against the Padres, proving once again that Spring Training statistics are super duper important. Not to be outdone, Cameron Maybin killed a baseball in the bottom half of the frame off Kenley Jansen

Daily Friar 4.4.12

The Padres made it back to the home turf last night to take on the Royals. The final score just goes to show how much different Petco is from Peoria. instead of 11-10 finals we got a 2-1 final last night. The Padres have one more exhibition game today against the Royals up in Lake Elsinore, then it's back to Petco for Opening Day tomorrow against the hated Los Angeles Dodgers...
