The same arch nemesis that closed out the 2012 regular season in the Bronx will be back to kick off the 2013 campaign when the Boston Red Sox come to town on Monday, April 1st. First pitch that afternoon will be at 1:05 and will begin the first of a three-game series to ring in the new season of New York Yankees baseball. The game is scheduled to be broadcasted on ESPN as part of their opening day slate of games. Last year’s season series between the two was lopsided as the Yankees won 13 of 18 games, concluding with a 14-2 laugher on the final night of the regular season. This drubbing would mercifully end the Bobby Valentine regime after one season in Boston as he was relieved of his duties the following day. This year’s version of the Red Sox will have a new voice in manager John Farrell, whose previous experience with the ball club as pitching coach makes him familiar with the intricacies of this rivalry. Following the April Fools’ Day opener, both teams will be off Tuesday, Apr...

Your Morning Dump... Where the Sox sign some guys

I did a Google Image search for "Diaz and Hamilton". Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. The Red Sox announced the signing of two free agents, infielder Jonathan Diaz and 1B/OF Mark Hamilton to minor-league deals along with an invitation...

Will Middlebrooks, 2013 Fantasy Sleeper

Will Middlebrooks is the reason the Red Sox felt it was okay to trade away Youkilis. Well, that and the fact that Youk and Bobby Valentine were bickering like they were in the final rose ceremony and Red Sox fans were the Bachelor. "He told me he doesn't love you, and he's only using you so he can be on the cover of People magazine for the next two years talking about...

Red Sox Rumors: Boston Should Trade Andrew Bailey

Following the acquisition of closer Joel Hanrahan from the Pittsburgh Pirates, right-hander Andrew Bailey is slated to enter the 2013 season as a setup man for the Boston Red Sox. However, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe wonders if Boston should entertain the idea of trading Bailey in order to fill another area of need. The Red Sox acquired Bailey last offseason from...

Player Profile #182: Ryan Dempster | SP | BOS

It was a tale of two seasons for Ryan Dempster in 2012. In 104 innings (16 starts) with the Cubs, Dempster dazzled us with a 2.25 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 83 K/27 BB ratio, but after a trade to Texas (his first stint in the AL) he pitched 69 innings (12 starts) and posted a 5.09 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 70 K/25 BB ratio. Now that he’s pitching in Boston the question bodes; can Dempster...

Brandon Webb, John Lackey Among Pitchers Eyeing Successful Comebacks After Missing 2012 Season (Photos)

Every offseason, without fail, you’ll hear the phrase, “low risk, high reward,” get tossed around. Typically, the return on investment isn’t much, but with minimal consequences, some teams figure they might as well take a shot. This year, when it comes to potential surprises, there are a few names being tossed around of pitchers who didn’t even step foot on a big league...

His first choice would have been a reunion in Philadelphia...

Report: Red Sox Showed Interest in Lance Berkman, But Talks Never Gained Momentum

The Red Sox still don’t have a starting first baseman — at least officially — for the upcoming season, and the market is now a little bit thinner with Lance Berkman reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Rangers. The Sox did do their homework on Berkman, though. According to WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford, Boston showed interest in the 36-year-old, but the negotiations never...

Former Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine will work as a commentator for NBC Sports Radio. He will be the part-time co-host of a weekday talk show that debuts in April. Bobby Valentine Gets His Own Sports Radio Show, Admits He Has ‘Opinion About Pretty Much Everything’

Bobby Valentine showed in 2012 that professional baseball may have passed him by in the decade he went between managerial jobs, but as Red Sox skipper, Valentine left no doubt that he still loves to hear himself speak. Valentine’s daily press briefings and postgame news conferences were must-see theater, especially as the gut-wrenching and embarrassing Sox losses piled up one after...

Bobby Valentine is moving back to the media... but not with ESPN

Bobby Valentine's one year tenure as Boston Red Sox manager was one of the biggest crash and burn jobs in the last several years.  The Red Sox went from AL East contender to AL East cellar dweller and had their worst season in almost 50 years.  Valentine made the return to the bench after a stint on ESPN as a Sunday Night Baseball analyst.  Now, Bobby V is making the quick...
