Nate McLouth hit a go-ahead, two-run triple and the Baltimore Orioles rallied to beat the Detroit Tigers 7-5 on Sunday. McLouth, Nick Markakis and Mark Reynolds each had two hits for the Orioles, who have won five of seven, including the last two of the key weekend series at Detroit. Chris Davis homered for the second straight game and J.J. Hardy had a two-run double. Baltimore leads Detroit by two games in the race for the second wild-card spot in the American League. The Tigers jumped all over Wei-Yin Chen (12-7), scoring five times with one out in the first. Omar Infante hit a solo homer, Miguel Cabrera walked and Prince Fielder singled to left before Jhonny Peralta drove a 2-0 pitch over the wall in center to make it 4-0. Delmon Young singled and scored on Jeff Baker's double before Chen retired two in a row to end the inning. The Orioles responded in the second against Doug Fister (7-8), one of the American League's hottest pitchers since the All-Star break. Davis connected for his 20th homer, Markakis doubled home a run and Hardy had his big hit that trimmed Detroit's lead to 5-4. McLouth, who entered with just four RBIs for the season, put the Orioles in front with two out in the fourth, and Davis drove him in with a base hit. That knocked Fister out of the game, having allowed as many earned runs as his previous five starts combined. Fister allowed eight hits, struck out six and walked three. The right-hander was 6-1 with a 1.97 ERA in his previous eight starts. Detroit put two runners on with no outs in the seventh but Darren O'Day struck out Cabrera on three pitches and got Fielder to bounce into a double play. Jim Johnson worked the ninth for his 37th save in 40 chances. The right-hander is now tied with Gregg Olsen for the second-most saves by an Oriole. Randy Myers had 45 in 1997. NOTES: Erik Bedard was the last Oriole to win 12 or more games in a season, picking up 13 victories in 2007.

Mark Reynolds blasts umpires

Mark Reynolds blasted the umpires who overturned a call during the Orioles' loss to the Tigers. He clearly was unhappy.

Baltimore Orioles face tough stretch to end August

A couple of weeks ago the Baltimore Orioles grabbed first place in the wild card race. Winning 4 of their last 5 series things were looking promising in Baltimore. But then two straight 5-3 losses and the Orioles are teetering on the edge of the playoffs. Manny Machado has cooled and can’t seem to hit like he was just a week ago. Mark Reynolds and Omar Quintanilla too have seemingly...

Finders Keepers: Dylan Bundy

With the playoffs starting in some leagues and with roughly only two weeks left in the fantasy baseball regular season in others, now is the time for keeper and dynasty league owners to find the future stars of tomorrow. In keeper and dynasty leagues, you always need to be on the look out for the next potential star and keeper for your roster, whether that player fills an empty...

Early runs not enough for Tigers in loss to O's

DETROIT (AP) -- Nate McLouth hit a go-ahead, two-run triple and the Baltimore Orioles rallied to beat the Detroit Tigers 7-5 on Sunday. So, just how flukish are the Orioles?

The Baltimore Orioles currently sit at 66-55. If the season ended today, they would make the playoffs, as they are currently edging Oakland by a half game for the second wild card. The Orioles have also been outscored by 43 runs. Their expected or Pythagorean record is 56-65 – or, about the reciprocal of their actual performance. The Pythagorean estimate is just that – an estimate...

A Loss in Motown, Reynolds Gets Tossed and Speaks His Mind...

Well, we as fans knew last night was going to be tough against the Tigers in Detroit. Obviously, it was. Last night, the Orioles lost their first contest in their three-game set against the Tigers, 5-3. The game was frustrating on some many levels, as Tommy Hunter tossed a typical Tommy Hunter start and the bullpen could not hold a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning. Then again, the...

Replay, Bud. Replay

Buck Showalter had every reason to be red in the face at the the call reversal that occurred in the sixth inning of the Baltimore Orioles game against the Tigers. And Major League Baseball should be red in the face too...with embarrassment. The original call by the first base umpire was correct. Mark Reynolds kept his foot on the bag on the throw from Manny Machado to get Peralta...

Just keep winning

That is all the Orioles need to do, it is what they have to do, and it is what they are doing. The need to keep winning to inch ever closer to that magic number 82. After today's come-from-behind victory, and series win, in Detroit the Orioles sit at 66-55 a mere 16 games under .500. With every win the Orioles make a winning season a little less fantasy and a little more reality...

Tigers blow 5-run lead, fall to Orioles and in standings

The Detroit Tiger’s (64-57) bats got started early scoring five runs in the first inning, but gave it right back the very next inning. The Baltimore Orioles (66-55) scored four in the second inning, then tied it, and gained the lead in a 3-run, fourth inning. The Orioles never looked back as they won third game, and this weekend series, on a final score of 7-5. The Tiger’s offense...

Orioles-Rangers Preview

Miguel Gonzalez is pleased to be contributing to the Baltimore Orioles' playoff push. He's probably happy he wasn't with them the last time they saw Josh Hamilton. The Texas Rangers slugger, who had the best series of his season back in May against the Orioles, will get his first look at Gonzalez in Monday night's opener of a three-game set in Arlington. Baltimore...
