After non-tendering Luke Scott last month, and showing no interest in re-signing Vlad Guerrero, the Baltimore Orioles are left with a gaping hole at designated hitter. It’s just one gaping hole on a team that’s also looking for starting pitching, a second baseman and third baseman. According to Scott Swaim of @MLBInsideNews the Orioles have been keeping tabs on Angels OF/DH Bobby Abreu this offseason. Abreu, should he be acquired, would presumably assume the role of DH in Baltimore. Abreu is owed $9 million for 2012 so any deal would likely have to involve the Angels kicking in some cash to help pay the freight on the aging DH. Abreu has been in steep decline. He posted just a .717 OPS with 8 home runs in 502 at bats last season. Sadly his .353 on base percentage would have led the 2011 Orioles.
