Orioles reinstate 2B Brian Roberts from 60-day disabled list

With Brian Roberts coming back tonight, infielder Steve Tolleson was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. We will be watching to see what Roberts does in his return; however, Tolleson did a decent job while up with the Orioles and had a few big hits. Tolleson was a victim of the numbers game, and since Ryan Flaherty is a Rule 5 guy, he can't be sent down. I would imagine Tolleson...

Orioles outfielder makes great diving catch

Baltimore Orioles infielder Chris Davis turned heads today with a diving catch in right field off the bat of Chipper Jones. Davis, making his first Major League start in the outfield robbed Jones of extra bases. The catch came at a critical junction of the game as pitcher Brian Matusz was clinging to a one run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Although Matusz proceeded to...

Brian Roberts returns

On Wednesday Brian Roberts completed a long road back from injury making his first start with the Orioles since May 16, 2011. I never thought I would be writing those words this year. I honestly doubted I would ever write those words again. Brian Roberts' recovery was so long and his body seemed so delicate this spring that I never thought he would get back to Camden Yards...

Brian Roberts’ Little League Look – Two Flaps Down On His Batting Helmet

Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts played his first major league game in 13 months Tuesday night. Roberts returned from battles with multiple concussions, and is now sporting a batting helmet with two flaps for his protection, which he describes as “function over looks”. Roberts, who had three hits and an RBI in his first game back Tuesday, said the helmet has taken some adjustment...

Can the Orioles Sustain Their Run of Success in 2012?

It has been an extraordinarily good week for the Baltimore Orioles as they have shined in interleague play, taking two out of three games from the Philadelphia Phillies and taking the first two in their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Orioles had struggled until the middle last week during a brutal stretch, but found a way to turn it on against Boston. As of now, they...

Arrieta gets back on track in spot start

On Wednesday morning, Jake Arrieta was a reliever -- demoted from the Baltimore Orioles' rotation last week. The former Opening Day starter was trying to turn his season around. By Wednesday night, he was the man, having thrown seven innings as an emergency starter in place of injured lefty Brian Matusz. Arrieta cruised into the middle innings and battled through the seventh...

Winning and Attendance: Part 1

I have said for years that the remedy for the poor attendance is not signing premier free agents, not signing "exciting name players" for marketing purposes, not putting "Baltimore" back on the away jerseys and not a better customer experience at the park. Those things are nice but factor that was going to move the needle for attendance was going to be winning...

The Return of Brian Roberts

Last night, the Orioles won their third straight game in a row as they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in interleague action, by a score of 8-6. Wei-Yin Chen (6-2) won another game – he went 6 1/3 innings, gave up four runs, Adam Jones had four hits, along with his 18th homer of the year; in addition, Mark Reynolds and Chris Davis went deep. Jim Johnson got his 19th save of the...

Erik Bedard rocked as Orioles complete sweep of Bucs

Final: Orioles 12, Pirates 6 WP: Tommy Hunter (3-3, 5.58 ERA) LP: Erik Bedard (4-7, 4.36 ERA) The Orioles scored 10 runs in this one before the Pirates even got a single player on base. That is not a recipe for success. The Pirates’ offense eventually woke up and scored six runs on ten hits, but it was way too late as this one was put out of reach early on. Erik Bedard gave up...

GAMEDAY: Pirates at Orioles

Pirates (32-28) at Orioles (35-26) 7:05 PM EST–Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore Here is the MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT Sports During their recent stretch of of solid play, the Pirates have still had their fair share of ugly games. They’ve done a great job of “showering well” (as Clint Hurdle says) and shaking it off the next day, though, and that’s the goal tonight...

Bye bye Baltimore

Following the surprising and very upsetting news of Charlie Morton‘s Tommy John surgery, the Bucs could have used a nice lift from Erik Bedard and company tonight in Baltimore. They didn’t get it, and were blown out to complete a really awful series. Bedard was bad from the start in his former home ballpark. The O’s struck for four runs in the first inning…the dagger being...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Baltimore Orioles – Game 62

This is going about exactly as I expected.  One guy who is a very questionable starter and another who is in no way a starter going back to back against a really good team is a recipe for disaster. #Hurdled And this has been one of my main criticisms with Clint Hurdle and the Pirates [...]
