MLB Injury News:
The Baltimore Orioles scratched outfielder Chris Dickerson
from last night’s lineup, as he was dealing with what’s been termed a strained
left shoulder, according to Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com.
At this point, the extent of the injury isn’t clear, as it’s
unknown how long Baltimore expects to be without Dickerson. The outfielder will
be reevaluated today when he arrives at the yard. If he’s not responding to the
team’s liking, manager Buck Showalter said Dickerson will undergo an MRI Friday
to determine the extent of the damage.
"Chris strained his left shoulder during batting
practice and didn't like the way he felt afterward, and [we] decided it would
be best to scratch him," Showalter said. "He's had some history of
some challenges in that area. He's got some experience with it, so we'll see
how it feels tomorrow. I'm hoping that it feels a lot better, but we're going
to kind of lean on him because he's got a lot of experience with what it feels
like when it's not right."
The shoulder has bothered Dickerson in the past, and he’s
had even more significant problems with his right shoulder. He told reporters
that he suffered the injury during the last swing of his first round of batting
practice. The hit he began feeling the discomfort on was a home run, but
despite the result he said something didn’t feel right in his arm. He described
it as a “radiating pain.”
Dickerson has played a reserve role for the Orioles this
season. He’s been produced in pivotal spots over the course of the year, but
his totals aren’t all that impressive. Over 103 plate appearances, the
31-year-old has hit .253/.282/.424 with five doubles and four home runs. Dickerson
was replaced by Nolan Reimold as the O’s designated hitter last night.

He's not getting any sympathy from his teammates, either.

Baltimore Orioles’ phenom third baseman Manny Machado made what will most likely be the play of the year. He took a hot shot ball from the New York Yankees Luis Cruz, bobbles the grounder and throws it on a rope from foul territory to get Cruz at first. An amazing display of arm strength and accuracy by the young infielder. This will be one of many plays we see from Machado this...
