The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to terms with veteran outfielder Endy Chavez on a one year $1.5 million contract. Chavez will have the chance to make an additional $500,000 in performance incentives. Chavez has bounced around the big leagues since breaking into the majors with Kansas City in 2011. The 33 year old had his best season as New York Met in 2006 when he hit four home runs, drove in 42 and posted a .779 OPS. He played for Texas in 2011 and did an admirable job as a reserve outfielder. The signing of Chavez should be good news for Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold. After posting a solid second half for Baltimore in 2011 Reimold looks to be the favorite to start in left field. Chavez will likely serve as a defensive replacement/pinch runner who gets the occasional starts in left and center. The addition of Endy Chavez won’t make the Orioles a much better team but he is a better option than youngsters Matt Angle or Kyle Hudson for the fourth outfielder role.

Mets remained interested in Endy...

I figured after they obtained Andres Torres, that Endy Chavez would would be viewed as a duplication of services. At the very least they would be in the market for a right handed center fielder to platoon with Torres should he look more like 2011 then 2010 or a power bat off the bench who could play better corner outfield then Murph. But according to Andy Martino the Mets remained...
