Zach Petrick picked up where he left off last season with another dominating outing. Also, the Memphis offense was dominating, scoring 9 runs after scoring 10 on Opening Day. Bourjos among 10 worst starts through five Cardinals games

We were taught that “Bourjos” rhymes with “gorgeous,” but the outfielder’s hitting so far this season has been anything but handsome. Batting seventh for the St. Louis Cardinals in Pittsburgh Saturday evening, centerfielder Peter Bourjos went 0-for-3 with a walk. In his first five games with his new club, the right-handed hitter is now 0-for-13 including six strikeouts...

Randal Grichuk homers in Redbirds debut, Mason Katz drives in three

Opening Day saw its ups and down in the Cardinals minor league system. The Memphis Redbirds, led by that awesome outfield of Randal Grichuk, Oscar Taveras, and Stephen Piscotty, looked very impressive. The Peoria Chiefs rallied from behind to put away Wisconsin, while Palm Beach struggled. Here are the highlights from Opening Day action: Memphis 10 Iowa 2 The Memphis Redbirds got...

It came from this red-hooded fan in the stands.Watch as the fan takes away a chance for Cardinals first basemen Matt Adams to catch a foul ball. The fan succeeds in making the grab. St. Louis Cardinals: Why Randy Choate should only face lefties

The St. Louis Cardinals were drubbed by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night by a 12-2 margin. It was an ugly affair all the way around for boys in red, particularly for the pitching staff. All four of the Cardinals pitchers allowed an earned run, including lefty specialist Randy Choate, who manager Mike Matheny would prefer to not limit to a specialist role, according to what he...

Wainwright, Cardinals go for series win in Pittsburgh

The first pitching matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates this weekend involved a pair of stellar young starters, while the second was a rematch of a tightly contested game in the 2013 postseason. The pairing for the finale appears to be a bit more of a mismatch. Adam Wainwright takes the hill against the Pirates for the first time since knocking them out...

Good to see you! Cardinals' offense shines in 7-6 win over Reds

Maybe the Cardinals regained some of their timing because they were able to play on back-to-back days for the first time since leaving Florida. Maybe it was the effect of Lance Lynn, who has a habit of bringing out the best in the Cardinals' bats whenever he pitches. Or maybe the Reds' pitching was down after two excellent outings. Whatever the reason, the Cardinals'...

Matt Adams nudges fan after having foul ball stolen from him, gets middle finger in return (GIF)

Matt Adams learned the hard way Thursday that opposing fans can be an unforgiving bunch. And sometimes they can be downright rude. The St. Louis Cardinals first baseman tried tracking a foul ball down the line hit by Chris Heisey in the third inning, but a darn Cincinnati Reds fan reached up and snatched the […]

Cardinals weather the storm in Cincy

As his players paced and pawed through the clubhouse Thursday, just killing time when not playing amateur meteorologists on their iPads, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny readied for a second lengthy rain delay in as many days. The Cardinals had an exhibition game rained out in the past week, two games threatened, and this disjointed start to the season had more precipitation than...

Game 3: Survive And Advance

After 6 hours and 20 minutes of rain delays combined the past two days, the Cardinals left Cincinnati with a series win and a strong reminder to all of us that on any particular game day, you never know what you’re going to see. Matt Adams shoving a fan in the stands? Check. Jhonny Peralta hammering a home run? Check. The full 2010 MC Hammer concert from Great American Ballpark...

Cardinals finally solve Liriano puzzle

The Cardinals got an early rally against the unlikeliest of pitchers, but it was an early move to a most reliable pitcher that spun those runs into a win. With the Cardinals clinging to a three-run lead Saturday and the tying run at the plate in the sixth inning, manager Mike Matheny called for Carlos Martinez, the righty who exited spring designated as the club’s setup man. Instead...

Game 5: Methodical Methodology

Curse de Liriano has been broken. Fransisco Liriano, the 2013 NL Comeback Player of the Year,  sported a 3-0 record with a 0.75 ERA and 20 strikeouts against the Cardinals last season. He last faced the Cardinals on October 6th 2013 in game 3 of the NLDS where he held the Birds to 2 runs while the Pirates got the win a 2-1 series lead. It’s easy to forget now, but the Cards were...
