The Padres September call-ups continued in full swing Tuesday afternoon, after the club had announced that right-handed pitchers Anthony Bass, Brad Boxberger and Brad Brach had all been called up from Triple-A Tucson to be added to the San Diego Bullpen. The Padres also announced Monday afternoon that righty Burch Smith was also called up from Tucson and that he may be given a chance to start Friday evening against the Colorado Rockies. With the moves, the active roster now stands at 31 active players. Smith, 23, made his major league debut earlier this season when he started a game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Smith has appeared in six games for the Padres in 2013, posting an 0-1 record with an 11.37 ERA (three starts, three relief appearances). Smith showed signs of brilliance at times, striking out 15 in 12.2 innings pitched, but he struggled to command his fastball, giving up 5 homeruns and 16 earned runs in four of his six appearances.
