Paul Konerko will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Birmingham on Thursday.
A lower back strain forced the veteran first basemen to the disabled list at the beginning of the month.
If all goes well for Konerko he could be activated on July 22. On the season Konerko was hitting .249/.314/.368 with 7 home runs and 30 RBI in 67 games.
The White Sox have already traded reliever Matt Thornton and have previously indicated that everyone but Konerko is available via trade.

Alex Rios has been subject to trade rumors for the past month and it appears those rumors will not be slowing down any time soon. Boston could always use another Thornton, right?
The Red Sox acquired reliever Matt Thornton, along with cash considerations, from the White Sox on Friday in exchange for minor league outfielder Brandon Jacobs. The deal — like any trade, really — carries some risk, but not enough to reconsider the addition of a potentially valuable left-hander to a bullpen in flux.
It was no...

The White Sox lost their final game of the season by a score of 4 – 3 in 10 innings. It was the first time all season that a series went extra inning in all the games in the series. There where lots of positives but it was also head breaking to watch at times.

With key injuries to both left handed pitchers Andrew Miller and Franklin Morales, it was inevitable for the Boston Red Sox to acquire another south paw to help out the team’s bullpen before the trade deadline. The White Sox also sent $750K to Boston, meaning the Red Sox will have to pay the bulk of Thornton’s remaining $3.5 million dollar contract.
