It looks like reality TV is setting up shop in Baltimore..."Ball Boys" debuts on ABC in a couple of months.Unfortunately, it doesn't focus on The Hall's favorite Charm City resident...Timmy Anderson.Apparently, "Ball Boys" is the next in a long line of "Pawn Stars" rip offs, but, this time (according to the Washington Post) it's not a pawn shop...it's a sports memorabilia shop called Robbie's First Base.
Each week, we’ll see staffers Robbie Sr. and Jr. — along with sidekicks Sweet Lou and Shaggy — as they negotiate, buy and sell various sports merchandise, both at the store and other locations. Plus, appearances from athletes such as Jim Brown and Pete Rose, who visit for some banter and “smack talk.” And look for a Baltimore Orioles shout-out in the first episode — a customer is convinced that a baseball caught over right fielder Nick Markakis’s glove is worth lots of money, though Robbie Sr. has different ideas.
But why w...

2011 Orioles Retrospective: Jake Arrieta
Jake Arrieta started out the year doing pretty well, despite having a high ERA. He was throwing more strikes and missing more bats, which is always nice to see. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to stay healthy all year, as an elbow injury led to surgery and Arrieta missed the last two months of the season. It's possible that the bone spur in his throwing elbow had negative...
Why 2012 Is An Important Year For The Orioles (Part Two)
Yes, the title in itself may seem like a joke, but when we dig a little deeper there are quite a few intriguing questions that surround the Baltimore Orioles. Previously, we looked at a few Orioles position players who need to have success in order to stick in the big leagues. Now it’s time to discuss the Orioles’ young pitching staff. The Orioles have several pitchers who were...
Offseason Notes: Five Moves of Not No Consequence
Here are five recent — and not entirely inconsequential — moves.
Baltimore Signs Taiwanese Left-Hander Chen
The Baltimore Orioles signed Taiwanese left-hander Wei-Yin Chen to a three-year, $11.3 million deal on Tuesday, reports a large portion of the internet. Our man David Goleblahblahblah, writing for RotoGraphs, looked at Chen in some depth yesterday. The salient details...
Should the Orioles Take a Chance on Manny Ramirez? If He Can Hit, Why Not…
Ok, I am a little late on this topic; however, as we all know, the organization took a look at Manny Ramirez last week during a workout in Florida.
We all know Ramirez’s sordid history in the game and his drug issues. He’s obviously not been an upstanding citizen in the game and frankly has bastardized his profession.
Ramirez spoke to ESPN this week about a possible comeback...
Reynolds to handle hot-corner duties for O's
Assuming the Orioles don't make any impact corner infielder additions in the next month, Mark Reynolds will head into Spring Training as the team's starting third baseman.
Pressing Questions: The Baltimore Orioles
When we last left Buck Showalter and the battling Baltimore Orioles, they were celebrating and partying on the field like it was 1979. Showalter's pesky crew went 5-1 against the Red Sox in the late stages of September, playing the spoiler role perfectly. The way the club reacted to its dramatic victory on that fateful final Wednesday, you'd have though the Orioles just won...
Taking a look at the Orioles' remaining free-agent possibilities
The word from around the B&O Warehouse is that the Orioles aren’t done with their winter shopping. The club has made some significant moves, most notably making a run in the international market for starting pitching by acquiring Japanese pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada and Taiwanese pitcher Wei-Yin Chen. But executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette has made...
Adam Jones Talks Extension
Orioles center fielder Adam Jones has appeared in more than his share of trade rumors this offseason, but there’s a chance he’ll stay in Baltimore long-term. Jones told WBAL 1090 in Baltimore this week that he’s not ruling out an extension should the Orioles pursue one with him.
“That has not been presented,” he said. “It’s kind of like looking into the future, which...
Bordick signs on to be MASN color analyst
The Orioles just sent out this release announcing that former Orioles shortstop Mike Bordick will join MASN as a TV color analyst. He will work approximately 80 games this coming season.
Slow Winter
The news this winter is so slow, people post that Adam Jones trade rumors are intensifying. Jones, as the Orioles are finding out, is a tough player to trade. He’s a young centerfielder who doesn’t play the position well. His strength as a hitter comes from his batting average and power, but he comes at a high cost in outs as his OBP is less than outstanding. If he...
