The Guru Contributing Writer New Red Sox starter Jake Peavy was impressive in his Boston debut Saturday night. When Peavy wasn’t muttering to himself on the mound, he was mowing down Diamondbacks. Peavy worked fast, threw strikes and displayed the air of an ace in the Sox 5-2 win. Peavy’s final line was seven innings, 99 pitches, four hits, two earned runs, two walks and seven strikeouts. After the game Peavy said, "Winning is what it's about. It's always fun to win, I don't care where you win, even if you win ping-pong in the clubhouse." Manager John Farell called Peavy “outstanding”, “as advertised” and was “a breath of fresh air — raw, competitive spirit.” Peavy’s one mistake was an 0-2 fastball that Arizona slugger Paul Goldschmidt took deep.
