Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
Excerpt from SI.com
The White Sox have reached agreement with the Padres on a trade for Jake Peavy but are awaiting Peavy's approval now, SI.com has learned.
Peavy has full no-trade power through next season and the trade will be entirely his call. Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod, reached by phone, said nothing's been decided yet and didn't provide a timetable on Peavy's decision. However, Axelrod said a potential change in leagues is one of many factors that Peavy's weighing.
"I still think he has a strong preference for the National League," Axelrod said. "I don't think that's changed as far as it being a preference, but not a preclusion.
"There are innumerable factors that are coming into play. There's nothing cast in stone in any way."
In an interview last week, Axelrod said Peavy prefers "Middle America,'' which should work with Chicago.
Sources say the Padres would receive top White Sox pitching prospect Aaron Poreda and Clayton Richard (both left-handers). San Diego has some choices to make about additional players in the deal, but Poreda and Richard are seen as the key pieces. The 22-year-old Poreda is currently 3-3 with a 2.54 ERA for the Double-A Birmingham Barons. Richard (4.33 ERA) started the year in Chicago's bullpen, but recently earned a spot in the rotation. In his last start, Richard pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. The Padres also need a shortstop, but the White Sox won't part with their top overall prospect, SS Gordon Beckham.
There goes another pitcher the Mets won't get!
