It’s great to see Pedro Martinez in a Red Sox uniform again, and on Monday Martinez addressed the media (in full on Red Sox apparel, yes!) regarding a variety of topics including his time in Boston, his new role as a special assistant and his ability to scare the living crap out of opposing batters. According to Martinez 90% of the batters unlucky enough to be on the wrong end of his fastball were hit intentionally (damn, that's cold). When asked if he could identify the players he unintentionally hit Martinez could only recall two names: Karim Gracia and Gerald Williams - ironically Martinez got into a confrontation with both men. Now fast forward to 2013 as the Red Sox have asked Martinez to become a coach and mentor for the team's pitching staff. Peety seems to relish his new role within the organization, and has taken it upon himself to educate Red Sox pitchers on the nuances of his old scare tactics – thank God he’s on our side.
