San Francisco Giants
Hunter Pence joked with Giants third base coach Tim Flannery before Tuesday night's game that perhaps he was due for a big hit or two.
Or three. Or four.
Problem was, Michael Cuddyer had two of his own - and they both cleared the fence as the Colorado Rockies rallied for a 9-8 win against San Francisco.
Pence hit a three-run homer in the first inning, an RBI double in the fourth and a tying, two-run single in the eighth against winner Wilton Lopez (3-4). Then Cuddyer came through with his second home run of the game in the top of the ninth.
''Yesterday I felt great and didn't get any hits,'' Pence said. ''I felt terrible before the game and told Flannery maybe I'm due for some hits. It worked out.''
Pence's 20th home run was a high drive to left that hit the foul pole and ricocheted into the stands. He has six straight 20-homer seasons.
He also has 21 stolen bases for his first 20-20 season.
''Hard to say,'' he s...

Grandma uses her glove to snare a foul ball off the bat of Todd Helton in the ninth inning at AT&T Park. Making awkward white guys everywhere feel really bad about themselves. This supposedly comes from a ski shop in Sacramento. To be fair, I’m pretty sure I saw Barry Zito out there playing and decidedly not taking the summer off. He’s just terrible. As of writing, in case you needed the nausea-inducing reminder, your defending champion Giants are 66-80, in last place and 20 games out of first place. The offseason is near, Giants fans. Just a little...
Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong has a nifty excuse for his struggles in 2013. It's not the broken finger that he suffered in the middle of May, it's not the fact that he's 36, it's not the fact that some fortunate peripherals pointed to an implosion. No, Vogelsong has "some questions" about whether or not his struggles are because of his participation in the...
The San Francisco Giants pulled the classic bubble gum prank on a photographer during Tuesday night's game at AT&T Park.
The CSN broadcast crew saw the bubble gum on top of the photographer's hat during the top of the second, with the photographer having no clue he was being pranked. The likely culprits were either Chad Gaudin or Tim Lincecum, neither of which...

Here we are, folks: the End of Season Post-Mortem series. If you're new here (which about 50% of our reader base is in comparison to last year), here's a brief explanation: after a team is eliminated from playoff contention, we're going to put their season under a microscope and look at just what the hell went wrong, what went right, and so on and so forth. The goal is...
The San Francisco Giants are set to activate reliever Jeremy Affeldt from the disabled list, according to Eric Gilmore of MLB.com. Affeldt has been sidelined since late July with a groin strain but threw his third simulated game on Tuesday and was pleased with his performance. Gilmore also writes that Chad Gaudin, who has been on the DL with carpal tunnel syndrome, still needs...
35-year-old right-handed Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong did everything but outright blame his participation in the World Baseball Classic as a possible explanation for his horrid season according to Aaron Gleeman of NBC Sports.
A broken finger swinging at a pitch on May 20th is what really did him in.
"I’m just not sure. The only way we’ll have an answer is to have...
Is it just me, or are Giants fans getting a little spoiled with the no-hitters and perfect games and near-misses in recent years? After a no-hitter drought that lasted 33 years, since John “The Count” Montesfusco blanked the Braves in 1976, the Giants have now had two no-hitters and one perfect game in the past five seasons. Jonathan Sanchez snapped the no no-no streak in 2009...
These are not the elimination games the Giants wanted to be playing.
Last fall they were unbeatable in elimination games the type that kept them alive in the postseason. Knowing a loss would send them home they beat the Reds and Cardinals three times apiece on their road to the World Series.
The elimination games they're in now? The worst kind. The kind they don't care...
Marco Scutaro and Brandon Belt hit consecutive RBI singles in the eighth inning to help the San Francisco Giants edge the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Wednesday.
The Giants loaded the bases with one out against Matt Belisle (5-7), and Scutaro followed with a tying single into right field. Belt's hit drove in Angel Pagan and gave San Francisco a 4-3 lead.
Guillermo Moscoso (2-2)...
This is the week that the San Francisco Giants were eliminated from the 2013 race for the National League West title. Soon they will also be eliminated from the NL Wild Card chase-- both the Giants and the New York Mets were recently 17 games out in the NL Wild Card standings.
Hangin' out with the Mr. Met mascot. That's the kind of company the 2012 World Champions are...
The Giants walked off for the second time in as many games on Monday night as they beat the Colorado Rockies 3-2 in ten innings.
Tim Lincecum allowed just two runs through eight innings of work at AT&T Park. He walked one and struck out three, the first time he’d struck out so few in an eight-inning outing.
Poor fundamentals hurt the Giants early in the field. The Rockies were...
The last pitch Yusmeiro Petit threw while he had a perfect game was the one that ended his perfect game. It was a fastball, thigh-high, over the outer edge, and Eric Chavez got around it and lined it to right. The ball was very nearly caught, but everything in baseball is very nearly something else, […]
