Fox Sports Detroit:
CHICAGO (AP) -- Jhonny Peralta had three hits and two RBIs one night after he made two costly throwing errors, and the Detroit Tigers rallied to beat the Chicago Cubs 8-4 on Wednesday.
Brennan Boesch had four hits, including a solo homer, and made a diving catch in right field as the Tigers improved to 8-1 in their last nine games against the Cubs. The one loss during that stretch occurred in the series opener Tuesday night, when Peralta made two errant throws from shortstop in the eighth inning that led to the decisive run for Chicago in a 4-3 victory.
But Peralta bounced back in a big way in the middle game of the series, and the Tigers will send Justin Verlander to the mound Thursday afternoon with a chance at a 4-2 interleague road trip.

The Detroit Tigers have put reliever Octavio Dotel on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow.
The Tigers also recalled right-hander Luke Putkonen from Triple-A Toledo before opening a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. The DL stint for Dotel is retroactive to June 3.
Dotel, who is 1-2 with a 4.42 ERA in 21 games this season, hasn...
Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland doesn't believe in momentum in baseball.
He subscribes to the age-old theory that "momentum is the next day's starting pitcher."
I disagree to a certain extent.
There clearly is momentum in the Major Leagues. It's the only way to explain how bad teams go on extended winning streaks and good teams on extended losing streaks...
At today's Cubs-Tigers game, comedian Jeff Garlin was the guest brought in to sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame", and after his song, he sat in the Cubs broadcast booth for half of an inning. In the midst of some smalltalk about outfielder Alfonso Soriano, Garlin says "let's hope we can trade him soon!" The Cubs announce team stands in silence for a...
Rizzo left the game with a knee contusion as is listed as day to day. Soto went 1-4 with a 2B in his first game back and Brett Jackson struck out 3 more times.
Nelson Perez was 3-4 with a HR and The Greg of Rohan went 2-5. Alcantara continues to impress with his bat in a pitchers league and is hitting .291. Goldstein had a write up about him the other...
29-33, 3rd place, 5 games back.
On a night when the Tigers’ big three bats were a combined 2-14 with 1 R and 0 RBI, the Tigers still plated 8 runners and won comfortably, for a change.
Since being reinserted into the 2 hole (this includes a PH appearance), Boesch is 12-22 with 2 HR, and has seen his average rise from .227 to .252. I don’t think that Boesch’s streak has anything...

CHICAGO (AP) -- Darwin Barney had three RBIs and the Chicago Cubs used shortstop Jhonny Peralta's two throwing errors in the eighth inning to push across the winning run in a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.
With two outs and two on, Tony Campana hit a grounder to Peralta, whose throw pulled Ramon Santiago off the bag at second. Starlin Castro then hit another...
Brett Jackson went 3-4 with a triple and a SB. It was Jackson's 9th triple of the year and while has walk rate is down and his average is as well his slugging has stayed pretty consistent with his minor league career average. Vitters was 1-3 with a BB and continues to improve his walk rate.
Matt Cerda went 3-4 with a HR. Cerda has always had a very good OBP and...
Trade speculation can get to some players. Not Matt Garza. The right-hander made it clear that he's willing to pitch anywhere, even if that involves hopping on a space shuttle. Garza, whose name will undoubtedly be tossed around in trade talks as Theo Epstein looks to rebuild the Chicago Cubs, understands the nature of the business, having been dealt twice before. He was traded...
