CINCINNATI Vinnie Pestano will be the first choice to get the ball in the ninth inning if the Indians are in need of someone to close out todays game against the Reds or any game in the near future. The bullpen may have had its troubles in the last week but manager Terry Francona has his plan in order now that Chris Perez has been placed on 15-day disabled list. Perez was on his way back to Cleveland to be examined today for a sore right shoulder that is similar to the injury that kept him out for a month during spring training. We talked to Vinnie this morning and hes comfortable slotting into that inning, said Francona. It is so much easier for us if you have a destination or end point to get to. We have plenty of depth but I still think that having guys know really helps give some semblance of order down there. Perez had allowed runs in three straight appearances, and in four of his last five outings before coming out of Sundays 6-5 loss at Boston with two outs and the base...

Fear Creeps Into Bullpen Mafia After Rough Week

You won’t find a bigger Vinnie Pestano fan than yours truly. Ever since he was a late September callup, earning a save in 2010 against Kansas City at a game that I attended, I thought this guy had the stuff to be a back end of the bullpen option long term. He’s been a huge key to the early season success of this team the last three seasons, and you won’t find a more fun guy...

Nine Innings: A rough week for the Indians

As the Indians stumble back home after a tough few days ... 1) Things certainly have changed in a week. Notes from the Wigwam: Mistakes lead to rough week

It’s always tough for a baseball team to go 2-5 in the span of a week. Of course, it’s even more difficult to deal with when you realize that the Cleveland Indians mostly had a bad week not because they were legitimately beaten but because they kept shooting themselves in the foot. The team did play poorly against the Detroit Tigers, which led to them getting swept 2-0 in the...
