Philadelphia Phillies rookie pitcher Jonathan Pettibone will likely be shut down for the rest of the season as the team announced that the right hander still has inflammation in his rotator cuff according to an MRI. General Manager Ruben Amaro told the media, “We’re going to be cautious with Jonathan. We don’t want to mess around with him too much. He has inflammation of his rotator cuff and some of the normal changes on his labrum that normally happen at this stage of his career, so we’re going to shut him down.” The good news for the Phillies is that no structural damage was revealed. After posting a 5-4 record with a 4.04 ERA in 18 games and 100 innings, the team is bullish on his future and hope that he will come to spring training healthy and ready to be a part of their 2014 rotation.
