Jonathan Pettibone has been a pleasant surprise to Phillies fans since making his debut back on April 22nd. He improved to 3-0 on the season and was the first Phillies pitcher since Gavin Floyd to start his career at 3-0. The 22 year old right hander pitched 6 2/3 innings which was his longest outing to date. He gave 2 runs in the second on a Michael Brantley single that scored Nick Swisher and Carlos Santana. That was all the Indians would get on this night in South Philadelphia as the Phillies won 6-2.
The Phillies wasted no time as Kevin Frandsen (starting in place of Chase Utley) smoked a solo shot into the left field stand off Indians starter Scott Kazmir. The Phillies would strike again in the bottom of the third inning with runners on first and second when John Mayberry Jr. ripped a ball in the left centerfield gap scoring Domonic Brown and Carlos Ruiz to take the early 3-2. From that point on, it was all the Phillies would need but not all they would get.
BEST OF MAXIM
Jonathan Pettibone has been a revelation for the Phils. But how long can it continue? (AP Photo).
As I wrote in my recap on Tuesday night, Jonathan Pettibone deserves a lot of credit. He has started five games so far this year and the Phillies have won four. He has shown a veteran’s ability to battle through jams. He has displayed a pretty good fastball, which at least through...
Here is the latest episode of Phillies Nation TV with Pat Gallen, Corey Seidman, Ryann Williams, and Jay Floyd.
Pat got a chance to speak with a local doctor about what goes into a surgery like the one Roy Halladay will undergo. Jay spoke with top minor league prospect Jesse Biddle at Reading, and he talked about what it would be like to get the call to the bigs.
Today the Phillies will hold their Phillies Phestival benefiting the ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter. Since 1984, the Phillies have raised over $12 million to combat the progressive neuromuscular disorder, known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. Most of the money has been raised through this annual event which features your favorite Phillies in autograph and photo booths...
On the offensive side of the ball, there are important slots for the Philadelphia Phillies to fill, and Michael Young can handle more than one. While Michael can be effective in the 2 and 3 holes, Delmon Young is better suited hitting behind Ryan Howard.

The Philadelphia Phillies have officially announced that veteran starting pitcher Roy Halladay underwent successful shoulder surgery Wednesday. The procedure was done by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of Los Angeles. “In certain cases it’s been three months, but we really don’t have a timetable. A scope and a cleanup to me is a lot different than a surgery. They aren’t going in and...
Carlos Ruiz scores on John Mayberry Jr.'s two-run double in the fourth inning of the Phillies' 6-2 win over the Cleveland Indians. (Kevin Durso/Philliedelphia) Jonathan Pettibone started the game for the Phillies on the mound and led the pitching. John Mayberry Jr. lifted the offense. Jonathan Papelbon closed the door....
Hall of Famer and former Philadelphia Phillies pithcer Steve Carlton was one of the most dominant pitchers of his era, and of all-time. He captured 4 Cy Young awards, while winning 329 games over 24 MLB seasons. Carlton also retired only second to Nolan Ryan in career strikeouts, and now stands fourth all-time on that list. Ryan finished his career with 5 fewer wins in three addtional...
The back spasms that kept Mike Adams from pitching Sunday and forced Jonathan Papelbon to pitch when he otherwise wouldn't have are still lingering. In fact, the pain is so bad that Adams may soon find himself on the disabled list. The Philadelphia Phillies reliever says he is experiencing back pain unlike anything he has ever felt before.
According to John Finger of...
Cole Hamels hopes the Phillies' recent good fortune on offense will extend his way.
Philadelphia tries to push its win streak to a season-high four games against a Cleveland Indians team trying to reignite its offense.
Hamels (1-5, 4.18 ERA) already has one fewer loss than all of last season, when he went 17-6. His strikeout-to-walk ratio - which has never been worse than 3.02...
Good news on the Roy Halladay front. Dr. Michael G. Ciccotti, MD, Phillies Director of Medical Services, issued the following statement on behalf of the team: "Roy had successful shoulder surgery yesterday. He had an arthroscopic evaluation and underwent debridement of his labrum and rotator cuff as well as removal...

The big news of the day is that the Phillies signed former all-star hurler Carlos Zambrano to a minor league contract. No water coolers were hurt during the signing.
The Philadelphia Phillies have signed right-handed pitcher Carlos Zambrano to a minor league deal. He will being his tenure with the Philadelphia organization by heading to extended spring training. The veteran pitcher will provide pitching depth and could be a sign of how worried the Phillies really are with the arm of Roy Halladay.

Asked to assess the Phillies’ position, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. responded in typically blunt fashion.
“We’re in a great spot,” Amaro said Thursday. “We’ve played terrible. And we’re 3½ games out.”
Amaro has a point, as far as the NL East standings are concerned.
The first-place Braves are 10-17 since opening the season 12-1, while the second-place Nationals...
The Phillies have agreed to terms with RHP Carlos Zambrano. The deal was first reported by Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal and is a minor league contract. Speculation heated up yesterday that Zambrano may have been signed by the Phillies because he had come to terms with the independent Long Island Ducks but had not yet been added to their roster.
Zambrano was 7-10 with a 4.49 ERA in...
