TEAMS: New York Yankees
In what very well may be his final tune up start before joining the Yankees in the Bronx, Andy Pettitte is scheduled to pitch this Sunday for the Triple-A Empire State Yankees.
Pettitte threw 96 pitches in his last start, an extended spring training game on Monday, and declared that he was ready for the big leagues following the start.
“I feel I’m strong enough and ready to make my next start with (the Yankees),” Pettitte told MLB.com. “I feel good and it was another solid day. I felt the quality of pitches were as good as I’ve had in any of my starts up to now, and I was able to hold my velocity throughout.”
As long as his next start is his last one, Pettitte is in line to come back on May 11 which is a home game against Seattle. Hiroki Kuroda is currently lined up to make that start though. So more likely, he’ll be back on May 12 if he takes Phil Hughes‘ spot or the next Monday, May 14, in Baltimore in David Phelps‘ place. That’s if nobody is skipped between now and then which is possible with an off-day this coming Monday.
Either way, Pettitte seems poised for a return to the Yankees sometime between next Saturday and Monday.
