In what very well may be his final tune up start before joining the Yankees in the Bronx, Andy Pettitte is scheduled to pitch this Sunday for the Triple-A Empire State Yankees.

Pettitte threw 96 pitches in his last start, an extended spring training game on Monday, and declared that he was ready for the big leagues following the start.

“I feel I’m strong enough and ready to make my next start with (the Yankees),” Pettitte told MLB.com. “I feel good and it was another solid day. I felt the quality of pitches were as good as I’ve had in any of my starts up to now, and I was able to hold my velocity throughout.”

As long as his next start is his last one, Pettitte is in line to come back on May 11 which is a home game against Seattle. Hiroki Kuroda is currently lined up to make that start though. So more likely, he’ll be back on May 12 if he takes Phil Hughes‘ spot or the next Monday, May 14, in Baltimore in David Phelps‘ place. That’s if nobody is skipped between now and then which is possible with an off-day this coming Monday.

Either way, Pettitte seems poised for a return to the Yankees sometime between next Saturday and Monday.

D-Rob and Soriano will share Rivera’s job

For years Yankees fans have feared what life would be like once Mariano Rivera wasn’t around any longer and even though he vowed that he would comeback, Rivera is gone now and the Yankees are fortunate to have two very solid options to replace him – David Robertson and Rafael Soriano. One has become one of the top relievers in the game since last season and the other came...

Mariano Rivera was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury during batting practice before Thursday's game between the Yankees and Royals in Kansas City, according to news reports. Yanks' Rivera says he will pitch in 2013

I'm not going out like this," Rivera told reporters Friday in Kansas City. The 42-year-old all-time saves leader hinted before the season that 2012 would be his final campaign...

Mariano Rivera injures knee shagging fly balls, carted off during batting practice

From this point forward, perhaps shagging fly balls in the outfield before a game should only be mandatory for pitchers who are under the age of 42. Maybe it isn’t exactly mandatory, but tracking down balls is something some of the Yankees players like to do to warm up and stay in shape. Yankees fans are now crossing their fingers the injury Mariano Rivera suffered while taking...

Mariano Rivera Suffers “Right Knee Sprain” Shagging Jason Nix’s Balls

Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was carted off the field today, after he injured his right knee chasing down fly balls during BP at Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium. Apparently, Rivera does this every single day, and according the The Herald’s Steve Buckley, he nags manager Joe Girardi on a regular basis about letting him get some playing time in the outfield. This is rich people...

Mariano injury worse than cruelest joke

KANSAS CITY You're joking, right? This wasn't in the script. The script says Mariano Rivera walks away when he's good and ready, and not a minute sooner. And he doesn't walk, either. He sprints like a jackrabbit in spring and leaps straight into the arms of his teammates, who collectively hoist him onto their shoulders one last time. He's waving his cap in the...

Mariano Rivera Can’t Go Out Like This

Love or hate the New York Yankees, you have to admit that Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer of all-time. Rivera, 42, was already putting together what could have been a swan song season to close out his career, as he’s recorded 5 saves in 6 chances, with a 1-1 record and 2.16 ERA. Instead, he could be going out more like a dying duck, as he’ll miss the rest of the season...

Should Mariano Rivera Retire After Torn ACL? (Video)

Mariano Rivera tore his ACL last night in warmups trying to shag a fly ball.  The question on everyone's mind is should he retire?  This has to be a sign right?  I mean he has shagged balls his whole career and he goes down with a torn ACL in his 17th season.  The man is 42 years old and his team finally has a chance to be knocked out of the playoffs after it seems like...

Mariano Rivera likely out for the season with torn ACL

I have to face this first.” According to Hoch...

Yankees sign Cuban outfielder Adonis Garcia for $400K

According to Ben Badler of Baseball America, the New York Yankees have signed Cuban outfielder Adonis Garcia for $400,000. The 26-year old Garcia played in the Venezuelan Winter League this year and hit .270/.313/.461 in 152 AB's. To read a scouting report I wrote about Garcia back in February click here. The Yankees Are at a Crossroads

Well, the New York Yankees are at a crossroads. And that was well before Mariano Rivera tore the ACL and meniscus in his right knee. I was talking with Mike this week and saying how this Yankee team was in a situation of seriousness. They have a veteran team, aging superstars and aging bench players. Before Jayson Nix and DeWayne Wise were promoted, guys like Andruw Jones and Raul...

WASHINGTON -- With two short answers, Andy Pettitte called into question the validity of his testimony against Roger Clemens, part of a discouraging day for prosecutors in the retrial of the seven-time Cy Young Award winner. After stumbling its way to a mistrial of Clemens last year, the government is struggling again in the retrial -- to the point that the crux of Pettitte's...
