Found April 21, 2012 on Midwest Sports Fans:
After the 8th inning, White Sox fans everywhere were saying Hawk Harrelson’s immortal words from Mark Buehrle’s perfect game to eachother, with just one small change: Call your sons! Call your daughters! Call your friends! Call your neighbors! Philip Humber has a perfect game going into the ninth! Indeed he was, and he got the job done. White Sox shortshtop Alexei Ramirez douses Philip Humber with ice water after Humber's perfect game. (Screengrab credit: Chuck Garfein) Humber’s stat line today was remarkable: 9 innings, 0 hits, 0 walks, 9 Ks, and only 97 pitches. He didn’t go to a 3-ball count at all until the 9th inning. And this perfect certainly ended in a unique fashion: Brendan Ryan tried to check his swing on a 3-2 pitch, didn’t, but the ball got away from AJ Pierzynski. AJ got it and threw to first to complete the perfect bid. Oh, and the White Sox won 4-0 to go to two games over .500. Humber, as usual, was humble and classy in the postgame, talking about the balls the Mariners hit hard and giving credit to his defense. Phil, credit to you. What a great comeback story. All I have to say is: YEEEYESSSSSS! Note: This was the 21st perfect game in MLB history, and Humber joins Mark Buehrle as recent White Sox to throw a perfecto.

He says he responded to all the phone messages and texts he received...

GIF of the Moment: Phil Humber’s Disbelief

As I mentioned last night on Twitter, today is Phillip Humber day at The Golden Sombrero.  As a baseball fan, a perfect game is worth celebrating, regardless if it comes at the expense of your favorite team.  Well, as a White Sox fan, great moments have been few and far between since Mark Buehrle’s perfecto in 2009. On Saturday evening, all of the team’s struggles were forgotten...

White Sox's Humber throws perfect game

Phil Humber threw the first perfect game in the majors in almost two years, leading the Chicago White Sox to a 4-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. It was baseball's 21st perfect game and first since Philadelphia's Roy Halladay threw one against the Florida Marlins on May 29, 2010. It was the third in White Sox's history, joining Mark Buehrle against Tampa...

Video: Humber Throws Perfect Game

The first perfect game of the 2012 Major League Baseball season goes to Phil Humber of the Chicago White Sox. Not a bad way for Humber to throw in his second start of the season. Humber bounced around the league for his first 6 seasons until he found a home with the White Sox last year and they installed him into their rotation. Humber took advantage of the opportunity, throwing...

Humber perfect, Rangers on alert, and Red Sox bottoming out

On Paper Phil Humber On Saturday Phil Humber ,of the White Sox, threw MLB’s 21st Perfect Game. Humber threw only 96 pitches and had 9 strikeouts in his efforts, as they beat the Mariners 4-0. Humber has not had much success since being drafted 3rd overall in the 2004 draft, behind Justin Verlander. He suffered through injury, received Tommy John surgery, and has been with 4 different...

Century21

Phil Humber tossed the 21st perfect game in MLB-history defeating the Seattle Mariners, 4-0 on Saturday.  The Chicago White Sox right-hander threw only 96 pitches in retiring all 27 batters to face him. Humber became the third pitcher in team history to throw a perfect game and first MLB pitcher since Roy Halladay in 2009 to accomplish the feat. The ninth-inning had plenty of...

Add Phil Humber To The List

PHILIP HUMBER: Nice thing for a nice guy. Add Phil Humber to the list of ex-Mets to throw a no-hitter. Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan seven times, David Cone and Dwight Gooden. Meanwhile, the Mets’ franchise doesn’t have any. I liked dealing with Humber when he was with the Mets. He was always pleasant to speak with and had a good sense of humor. At the time, I was happy for him when...

No Hitters Over The Years By (Binghamton) Mets Pitchers

There has been a lot of talk this season about the ‘no-hitter’ and lack of one by a pitcher in a New York Mets uniform.  Ex-Mets minor leaguer Phil Humber tossing a perfect game on Saturday will only help fuel the conversation that the Mets history books are devoid of a no-no.  However, while the New York Mets have never experienced the thrill of having one of their own throw...

Natural Order

Don't worry, I'm going to blog about Saturday's win soon. But until then, good for Phil Humber. Sure, it's just another former Met who has to go somewhere else to pitch a perfect game and make history. Not his fault he was one of the small handful of prospects that Omar Minaya was willing to give up for Johan Santana. Maybe Minaya would have been better served to...

Humber-uh, Humber-uh, Humber-uh

Let Kate Upton know that Philip Humber is now allowed entrance into the Perfect Club as he retired 27 straight Mariners (here’s a tip: don’t get too close to Dallas Braden in the sauna).  That’s only the 21st perfect game in history – surprisingly, as you would’ve thought at least that many pitchers would have thrown perfect games against the Mariners last year.  Kudos...

The Runge Rule

Brendan Ryan's checked-swing on the final pitch Saturday. Did he go around? Nobody knows because there is no definition of a checked-swing in the rulebook. The perfect game pitched by Phil Humber should have an asterisk attached because of the blown check-swing strike call by umpire Brian Runge on the last out of the game. Of course baseball does not question any of these types...
