In case Phillies fans missed it, A.J. Burnett pitched yesterday for the Blue Jays and was lights-out. Burnett's line: 8.1 innings, 1 ER, 8 strikeouts, and 1 walk in a 4-1 victory over the New York Yankees. As Adam Eaton showed against Randy Johnson and Brett Myers showed against Akron, quality starting pitching is still an issue for the Phillies. Burnett could be the answer. As the trading deadline inches closer and closer the Phillies need to make a move to bolster their starting pitching. First place at the all-star break is nice, but can the Phillies hold on with their current staff? Just look at what C.C. Sabathia has done for the Brewers since the trade: 2 starts and 2 wins. Burnett could bring similar results to the Phillies.
