The Philadelphia Phillies announced their minor league players of the month for July, naming Carlos Rivero as the Player of the Month and Michael Schwimer as the Pitcher of the Month.
Rivero is a third baseman for the Reading Phillies, who was actually just promoted to the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs for his stellar play in July. Rivero batted .373 with 41 hits during the month. For the season, Rivero is batting .285 with 11 home runs in Double-A ball.
Schwimer was an All-Star this year on the Triple-A team, and he has been pitching lights out as a reliever. The 6-foot-8 pitcher was 3-1 with a 1.15 ERA in 11 appearances in July, striking out 21 batters in just 15.2 innings. He also converted all four of his save opportunities. For the season, Schwimer has a 7-1 record with a 1.73 ERA.
With the way he’s pitching, Schwimer absolutely deserves a call-up to the big leagues.
