Joe Blanton hasn’t pitched since May 14 because of elbow issues. Now word is he’s heading back to Philadelphia to have his elbow examined by team physicians. Blanton is 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA in six starts this season. He already saw Dr. James Andrews, who said Blanton didn’t need surgery, but since Blanton still isn’t back and is having his elbow looked at again, it’s impossible not to think he may need Tommy John surgery. Blanton is in the second year of a three-year, $24 million contract. Vance Worley has done a remarkable job filling in for Blanton this year.
