After missing five straight games with a back injury, Placido Polanco decided he will sit out the 2011 MLB All-Star Game. Polanco was named the starter from the National League after a dynamic April, although he has slumped drastically since May 1. Polanco was replaced on the team by Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez, although Ramirez was replaced later today by San Francisco Giant Pablo Sandoval. Polanco was the only Phillies hitter to make the team initially, although Shane Victorino was then added to the team by winning the NL’s Final Vote. Victorino is on the 15-day DL, so the Phillies won’t have any hitters playing.
