According to Jim Salisbury of CSN, the Philadelphia Phillies will sign free agent second baseman Luis Castillo to a one-year deal worth $414,000. Castillo will technically be paid $6.414 million but the $6 million is owed by the New York Mets, who cut Castillo last week. Signing Castillo obviously means the Phillies will not pursue six-time All-Star second baseman Michael Young of the Texas Rangers. The Castillo signing is actually a pretty good move, considering the Phillies signed a former three-time All-Star for the major league mimimum. If Castillo hits well this season, then he will play, and if not, they can cut him without much of a loss. The reward is greater than the risk. PhillyBuster is boldly predicting Castillo to bat around .290 this season, including a walkoff hit against the Mets.
