Roy Halladay pitched eight innings and Chase Utley hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night. It was the second straight outstanding outing for Halladay (6-6), who missed 42 games while on the disabled list with a strained lat. He returned July 17 and struggled in his first three starts back, going 0-1 with a 5.82 ERA. He threw seven innings in a 3-0 victory over Arizona on Saturday. The right-hander matched a season low by allowing just two hits, while striking out eight and walking none. He didn't allow a hit after Jon Jay's two-out single in the third, retiring 16 of his final 17 batters. The only hitter to reach base was Yadier Molina, who got to first after being hit on the left elbow leading off the fifth. The Cardinals threatened in the ninth off Jonathan Papelbon, who pitched a scoreless inning for his 25th save in 28 chances. Papelbon gave up a one-out double to A...

Roy Halladay: Physically I'm 100%; Phillies' Rebuild Will Be Quick

Roy Halladay was on MLB Network Radio this morning on "Power Alley" with Jody McDonald and Fred McGriff to promote discoverboating.com, but talked plenty of baseball, including how he is feeling after his trip to the disabled list. The biggest news is that Halladay says he is fully healthy once again.  His seven inning scoreless performance could be an indication.  For...

The Doctor Is In: Halladay returning to form

Roy Halladay is 6-6 with a 3.80 ERA in his third season with the Phillies. (Philliedelphia/Kevin Durso) Roy Halladay left the field after the eighth inning in a 1-1 game on Friday night looking like he had plenty left in the tank. And if the ninth inning had started with the same score, he might have returned to the field. Halladay allowed one run on two hits in his Friday night...

Roy Halladay Masterful; Chase Utley Provides Offensive Late

Halladay pitched eight innings, allowing only a run on two hits while striking out eight. It seems like old the Halladay is back. St. Louis’ only run off Halladay came in the second inning when Carlos Beltran ripped a solo shot, his 28th on the season, to give the Cards a 1-0 lead. However, the Phillies answered back in the bottom half when Domonic Brown drove in Ryan...

It seems like a very long time since we have seen a really good Phillies game. But with Roy Halladay on the mound last night looking like the ace that he is, it felt like old times again. Halladay, Lohse Start As Cardinals Return To Philly For First Time Since 2011 NLDS

On October 7, 2011 the Philadelphia Phillies played in what could be their final "golden era" game. Carpenter was able to fend off Halladay and the Phillies, tossing a 1-0 shutout to complete the series win over the...
