Phillies claim IF Carlos Rivero from Indians

Yesterday the Phillies claimed 23-year old infielder Carlos Rivero from the Cleveland Indians. The Venezuelan righthander went .232/.278/.325 with six home runs in 496 ABs while playing shortstop last season at Double A Akron. Adding him to the 40-man roster could mean potential competition for Wilson Valdez in the backup shortstop role, but it is likely Rivero will start the season in the minors.
