Found June 30, 2012 on Philliedelphia:
After a miserable game one last night in which the Marlins beat up Cliff Lee, the Phillies were looking to gain some ground in the N.L. East with the Braves and Nationals playing each other this afternoon. Cole Hamels looked to continue his excellent season against Mark Buehrle who pitched seven scoreless in his last outing. Giancarlo Stanton got the party started with a solo home run to left field, igniting the Marlins' home run statue, hypnotizing fans and putting on a show. 1-0 Fish. In the top of the second, Carlos Ruiz was able to score on a sacrifice fly from Shane Victorino. Tied game. Jose Reyes scored in the third on a single from Stanton, putting the Marlins up 2-1. In the fifth, Reyes scored again, this time on a bases-loaded sac fly from Justin Ruggiano. Like Omar Infante's sac fly last night, Ruggiano's would have been a grand slam anywhere else. 3-1 Miami. Hunter Pence brought the Phillies within one run in the seventh with a solo home run to left-cen...

Is something actually wrong with Cliff Lee?

With the Phillies currently in last place in the NL East, their fans are getting a tad bit nervous as we enter July. The major target of their frustrations is $20 million man Cliff Lee, who is still without a win this season in his 13 starts. Because of his lack of wins, and an ERA that is currently above 4.00, some fans are jumping all over the thought that something must be wrong...

Mysterious slump continues to plague Phillies' Lee

Cliff Lee hasn't been frustrated as much as he's puzzled by what's gone on in the first three months of the 2012 season. For the most part, he does the equivalent of a shoulder shrug when asked about another start going by without a win. The Philadelphia Phillies have lost 10 of Lee's 13 starts this season. In the first month, it was low run support. In the last...

Cliff Lee Has To Be Better for Phillies

Cliff Lee will make $21.5 million this year, but is currently 0-5 with a 4.13 ERA. He has pitched the first 3 months of the season without a win, and that is unacceptable. It’s no longer a matter of waiting for Cliff Lee to find his form. There is not the luxury of time now. It’s also not about a lack of run support, though he got little of that last night. Cliff Lee is just...

Phillies Flounder in 6-2 Upset in Miami; Cliff Lee Still Winless

Brutal, brutal, brutal. The season continues to go down south for Cliff Lee, who entered this game with zero wins and left with the same amount. It's not about the offense bailing him out, that hasn't been an issue as of late. This is now about Cliff Lee giving up way too many runs, which is highly unusual for him, but it has been an issue all season. It wouldn't be...

Baseball Talk Philadelphia: Friday Fan Rant

Tom Van Leer leads off with a lot to say: Dear Baseball Talk: Philadelphia Where do I start. It is hard to believe this team. Just when our Offence is starting to get in motion our bullpen continues to be mediocre. Last night the team, the fans, and the city was the happiest its been since Opening Day. Chase is back, we hear Ryan Howard is starting rehab, and Chooch is the...

Marlins begin three-game set against Phillies

The Miami Marlins are hoping a win over the defending World Series champions will help them turn a corner. The last-place Philadelphia Phillies would love to see Cliff Lee - still in search of his first win - put his recent struggles behind him. Seeking back-to-back victories for the first time in nearly a month, Miami sends Josh Johnson to the hill opposite Lee as these NL East...

John & Suzyn's Cultural References of the Game

(Nothing that happened in American popular culture after 1980, and very little after 1970, has ever managed to penetrate the walls of the Lowe's Broadcast Booth. Thus, John and Suzyn's frequent music, stage and film references can easily baffle anyone born after Pearl Harbor. When possible, we'll use 21st century research tools to bring you the stars and stories rattling...

Final: Phillies 2, Marlins 6. WP: Cliff Lee (0-5, 4.13 ERA) LP: Josh Johnson (5-5, 3.80 ERA) Cliff Lee's struggles in the 2012 season continued to exist in the first game of the current road trip.  He lasted just four and two-thirds innings, allowing two walks, 10 hits, and six earned runs.  Lee has an 8.64 ERA in his last three outings. In his last eight outings, he has...

Cole Hamels Seeking First Win Against Marlins This Season

Well last night wasn't the start we were looking for. Cliff Lee was lit up for six earned and the Phils only produced two runs themselves. It wasn't a good game at all, and for Cliff Lee it hasn't been a good season at all. The Marlins now hold a 4-3 record against the Phillies this year, as well as sitting 2 1/2 games ahead of them in the divison standings. This afternoon...

Game Picks - Saturday: June 30, 2012

There was a pleasant surprise this morning as yesterday's results were tallied. As the light was extinguished last night, it was with the thought that yesterday was a bad picking day. After all, Matt Cain lost. Justin Verlander lost. Cliff Lee lost...again. The Yankees lost. But then the realization dawned that the Yankees were predicted to lose as was Cliff Lee. Well, cool...
