The Phillies batted around in the first and ninth innings to cruise to a 16-1 win over the New York Mets on Thursday.
With the win the Phillies swept the Mets, but stayed four back on the second Wild Card.
The Phillies had nine hits and eight runs in the first inning alone.
Their 16 runs and 21 hits were season-highs for the Phillies.
A night after winning the game for the Phillies with a winning home run, Ryan Howard hit a grand slam in the ninth inning.
If the Phillies are to make a playoff run, Howard will be a big part of the run.
Juan Pierre got five hits on the night.
Mike Baxter hit a solo home run to account for the Mets’ only run.
Mets’ starter Jeremy Hafner did not make it out of the first inning.
Tyler Cloyd went eight innings, striking out 6 and walking two.
