Philadelphia Phillies pitcher has made unconventional history. Cliff Lee (Getty Images)
He has become the first pitcher in the modern area, dating back to 1900, to strike out 200 batters and have 6 or fewer wins on a season. Lee finished with exactly 6 wins on the season and went 6-9 overall.
He gave up three runs in six innings in a loss on Wednesday to the Washington Nationals. He also finished the season with a 3.16 ERA.
He struck out 200 batters in 205 innings while making 30 starts. Lee, who is due to make $25 million next year, hopes to rebound on his horrible 2011 season.
The 6 losses were the fewest since the 2007 season. He had a 5-8 record that season in 97 innings.

Perlozzo, Mackanin, Gross All Fired by Phillies
The Phillies are cleaning house. The will not renew the contracts of coaches Sam Perlozzo, Pete Mackanin, and Greg Gross for 2013. BJ Rosenberg & The Bear
BJ Rosenberg gets the start tonight. He's quietly lowered his ERA by nearly cutting it in half from 13.09 (on September 1st) to 6.86, thanks to 7 consecutive scoreless appearances, spanning 10 innings.Expect tonight to seem more like a Spring Training game rather than an October baseball. The Nationals have nothing left to play for and will likely rest their regulars the final...
Phillies restructure coaching staff to implement succession plan
I pondered both in June and at the beginning of September as to whether or not the Phillies 2012 season would cost manager Charlie Manuel his job. Well, after a restructuring of the Phillies coaching staff after Wednesday's season finale against the Nationals, it appears Manuel will stay for 2013, but not beyond.
Long-time Phillies coach Greg Gross, serving as the hitting coach...
Charlie Manuel Is Comfortable With Ryne Sandberg's Promotion And His Own Contract
According to an article written by CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel feels no threat with the new promotion of Ryne Sandberg.
The hall of famer Sandberg was appointed to the third base coaching position for the big league club this morning following the Phillies' house cleaning within the coaching staff.
With Charlie Manuel's contract expiring...
Phillies' Sandberg promoted to third-base coach
Ryne Sandberg took one step closer to a big-league managing job Thursday, when the Hall of Fame second baseman was named the Philadelphia Phillies third base coach and infield instructor. Sandberg's promotion comes amid a coaching-staff shakeup for the Phillies, who finished the season at 81-81, their first season at .500 or worse since 2002. First-base coach Sam Perlozzo,...

Phillies September Storyline
The Phillies had a good September of baseball. A 17-10 September record in recent years would normally cruise the Phils into the postseason, but not this season. 17-10 was not enough in 2012 to continue the Phillies streak of five consecutive NL East titles, tied for the third longest streak since...
Nats beat Phillies, secure home-field
The NL East champion Washington Nationals secured home-field advantage throughout the postseason by beating the Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 Wednesday for their majors-high 98th victory, with Ryan Zimmerman homering moments after the Teddy Roosevelt mascot won the Presidents Race at Nationals Park for the first time.
By winning their regular-season finale, the Nationals clinched top...
Phillies Announce a Savvy Front Office Hire
The Phillies just announced they hired Bart Braun as Special Assistant to the GM. Braun is best known as a scout for the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa Bay has been the gold standard of good scouting ever since their run to the 2008 World Series. It's tough to argue bringing someone on board who has had a part in their recent success. How this move affects the draft, trades, and free...
Mike Schmidt wishes today's players would have more legible autographs
They don't make bats the way they used to. They don't make the baseballs the way they used to. They don't play the game the way they used to. And they don't sign autographs the way they used to.
Wait, what?
Philadelphia Phillies legend Mike Schmidt seems disappointed about the way today's players take time to sign autographs, writing in a column for the Associated...
