John Mayberry Jr. might be a mere bit player on the juggernaut Philadelphia Phillies, but the 27-year-old outfielder doesn't shortchange himself when it comes to love.

Mayberry asked his agent to contact representatives for actress Antoinette Nikprelaj to set up a meeting, according to the New York Post. In an email reportedly sent from Mayberry's reps,Mayberry "would love to meet Antoinette or invite her to a baseball game sometime."

"I hate to even be sending you this e-mail, and I'm quite embarrassed to say the least, but we have a young client on the Philadelphia Phillies who asked us if we knew any agents at Innovative Artists and could connect him to Antoinette Nikprelaj," reads the Aug. 30 email, the Post reports.

"I know you're not a dating or set-up service, but John Mayberry Jr. would love to meet Antoinette or invite her to a baseball game sometime. Would this be possible?"

As an enticement to the actress, who may be best known for portraying a mermaid in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the agent notes that Mayberry is Stanford-educated and "down to earth."

For Mayberry's sake, let's hope it worked out and he got an audience with Nikprelaj so he can say something good came out of the attempt. On the field, though, he's had a tougher time. Mayberry was 11 for his last 34 (a .324 batting average in that span) just before his representative set that message; he's batting .200 (2 for 10) since.
