Found October 17, 2013 on Phillies Nation:
The Phillies announced today that they have outrighted outfielders Roger Bernadina and Casper Wells, as well as left-handed reliever Cesar Jimenez and right-handed reliever J.C. Ramirez. Including pending free agents Roy Halladay and Carlos Ruiz, and the remaining arbitration eligible players, the Phillies 40-man roster currently stands at 36. Bernadina, 29, was claimed mid-season from the Washington Nationals. The Shark got plenty of opportunities to play in a depleted Phillies outfield but struggled, posting a .187/.256/.347 line. Bernadina was arbitration eligible for the first time this off-season. Wells, 28, became famous in 2013 for being on the active roster of five MLB teams. Wells, an outfielder, memorably gave up five earned runs in 2/3 of an inning on August 24 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Wells hit .042/.115/.083 for the Phillies in just 26 PA and spent most of September on the disabled list tending to vision issues. Wells was arbitration eligible for the first time...

Phillies Nation Player Review: Roy Halladay

Was September 23 the last time we will see Halladay as a Phillie? If I had to pick one word to describe Roy Halladay‘s 2013 campaign with the Phillies, I’d choose heartbreaking. Every night, I held my breath, hoping that a proud man such as Halladay would find a small portion of the success that led him to over 200 wins, six top-five Cy Young finishes, and two Cy Young wins in...

Before reading, please note that today is not April 1. A week after deciding to become a free agent, the Phillies have re-signed infielder Michael Martinez to a minor-league contract according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish. Since being acquired by the Phillies as a Rule 5 draft pick before the 2011 season, Martinez has hit .187/.234/.261 in 396. Martinez has played all three...

Lannan Becomes Free Agent

John Lannan has refused an assignment to the minor leagues, therefore becoming a free agent today. Lannan, 29, began his time with the Phillies with two solid starts before struggling through his third start on an injured leg, which would force him to miss two months. He was never the same pitcher. Following his return on June 17, Lannan posted just four quality starts the rest of...

Bye-Bye...Well, Sorta

The Phillies have been doing some house cleaning, as Cesar Jimenez, JC Ramirez, John Lannan, Casper Wells, and Roger Bernadina were all outrighted off the 40-man roster. That illustrious group combined to hit .157/.482 in 121 at bats and pitch to the tune of a 5.90 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP over 116 innings.  Good job Amaro!Speaking of Amaro, he most love ******** from Michael Martinez...

Phillies Cut Four More: Two Relievers, Two Outfielders

The Phillies' roster got lighter today as the Phillies outrighted four players off of the roster. They were outfielder Roger Bernadina, outfielder Casper Wells, reliever Cesar Jiminez, and reliever J.C. Ramirez. The Phillies outfield could feature Darin Ruf and Cesar Hernandez as backup outfielders if the Phillies acquire a starting...

Pitcher John Lannan becomes a free agent

On Thursday, the Philadelphia Phillies outrighted pitcher John Lannan from their 40-man roster.  But to the surprise of no one, Lannan refused and elected to become a free agent. As reported by Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, Lannan suffered an injury to his left knee on August 14 which ultimately led to season-ending surgery.  Although he said he hoped to be back to 100 percent by the...

Jaun Samuel and Wally Joyner return to Phillies’ staff

The Philadelphia Phillies are closer to assembling their coaching staff for 2014. The team announced that first base coach Juan Samuel and hitting coach Wally Joyner will return next season. As reported by Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, Wally Joyner had initially declined an invitation to return to the team as assistant hitting coach under Steve Henderson.  Joyner was pursuing...

Phillies Sign Free Agent Infielder Michael Martinez

Woo! A couple weeks after outrighting utility infielder and sometimes pretend outfielder Michael Martinez off of the 40-man roster, he is back in the Phillies organization once again. Although Martinez elected free agency, he signed a new minor league deal with the Phillies. Martinez is never, ever going to go...

Bryan Cranston is a Front-Running Poser.

Like most Phillies fans, I was most delighted when Thomas Schnauz, writer and co-executive producer on Breaking Bad, tweeted this head-scratching photo of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White character wandering the halls in a Phillies jersey. Schnauz explained that it was not a lost scene, but rather Cranston showing off his Phillies fever as a “fan.” Unused #BreakingBad scene where...

Hello and Welcome to the Philly Dream Series

I don’t need to tell you that it wasn’t so long ago that October was the best month of the year in Philadelphia. For 5 straight seasons, we still harbored dreams of a World Series title after the regular season wrapped up. And in 2008, many of us experienced our most joyous month of being a sports fan ever. But the last two seasons have been duds, and October has become a month...

Walk This Way: Phillies Pitching Total Balloons In 2013

You probably suspected that the Phillies' pitching was not as good in 2013 than it has been in other years. Today, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly passed along a rather alarming stat. The Phillies pitching has walked many more players than in recent memory. The big-league club, after recording the...

Phillies Cut John Lannan, Who Refuses Assignment To Minors

Nice knowing you, John. The Phillies got just 14 starts out of John Lannan in 2013 before he went down with an injury. Lannan spent 2012 mostly in the minor leagues, and apparently did not desire to do so again. Tonight the Phillies tried to send him back to minors...

Denial Gives Hope That The Phillies Will Be Mini-Mart Free; Source Holds Firm

This is bigger news than it needs to be, probably because everybody freaked out about it. With thousands of people turning to Facebook and Twitter to scream about Michael Martinez, it would be a shame if the signing never came true because all that angst would be for naught. Kevin...
