Although uncertain, Philadelphia Phillies ace Cliff Lee could miss his start on Friday, August 2, against the Atlanta Braves. MLB.com's Stephen Pianovich reports that Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr., has not yet decided if Lee will pitch on Friday due to Lee's stiff neck. Lee missed his last scheduled start against the Detroit Tigers on July 26 with the neck stiffness. Raul Valdes pitched in Lee's place and will likely do so again if Lee cannot go. Amaro explained that part of the decision comes from how he wants to work the rotation for the Braves series. Said Amaro, "We're trying to figure out how we're going to set up our rotation through the course of the weekend." If Lee can pitch, then Amaro might want to take advantage. Lee is the only Phillies starter with 10 or more games and an ERA under 4.00. Lee is 10-4 with a 3.05 ERA in 20 games. Meanwhile, Amaro started that his prized left fielder Domonic Brown "is probably a week away" from rejoining the Phillies. Brown is on the concussion list due to hitting his head while trying to make a diving catch on July 23. He finished the game, but after complaining of dizziness, he took tests that revealed a concussion. Brown took a new concussion test on July 31 and will have another on August 1. If his tests turn out well, he may return early next week. Brown is having a season worthy of MVP consideration. He likely will not win it, but considering his output, he could garner a few votes. Brown is hitting .271/.316/.531 with 24 HR and 69 RBI. He also has a WAR of 3.1 for a team seven games under .500. Follow Raymond on Twitter @RayBureau. An Argument for Trading Cliff Lee

Should it take an earth-shattering package for the Phils to move Lee? (PHOTO: AP) As the clock creeps towards today’s 4pm trade deadline, die-hard Phillies fans are sure to be glued to their rumors source of choice.  Last night’s report that Jake Peavy is headed to Boston put a sizable dent in the Phillies chances of moving Cliff Lee, leaving only the Tigers, Cardinals and...

Red Sox pursuing Cliff Lee from Phillies

The Red Sox are reportedly looking to add a starting pitcher before Wednesday’s MLB trade deadline passes, and one of the names that they’re supposedly interested in is Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee. And while the Phils are open to parting ways with Lee, a former Cy Young winner, they’re reportedly not willing to do so without receiving a valuable young piece in return. According...

Phillies push Cliff Lee back to Sunday with sore neck

A sore neck resulted in Cliff Lee getting scratched from his last scheduled start. Initially it looked like the ace would only have to miss one appearance as a result of the injury, but as today approached there was talk that Lee would need more time to recover from his neck ailment. That proved the case yesterday, as the Phillies decided to push Lee’s start back to Sunday...

Report: Cliff Lee Trade to Red Sox Is ‘Unlikely’ As Boston Explores Other Options

Well, that didn’t take long. Earlier Tuesday, word came out that the Philadelphia Phillies were demanding top Red Sox prospect Xander Bogaerts in any trade for ace Cliff Lee. About an hour passed before another report emerged indicating that the Red Sox don’t think the 34-year-old left-hander is in the cards — we can only speculate because they believe the price for Lee is...

Phillies rumors: Cliff Lee won't be traded today

Now that Jake Peavy and Matt Garza have found new homes, Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee is far-and-away the top starting pitcher remaining on the trade market. However, it sounds like Lee may not be going anywhere, as Jim Bowden of ESPN reports that the southpaw is not going to be traded today. Cliff Lee is not getting traded today according to #source — JIM...

McNeal: Cards are quiet at trade deadline, and wisely so

ST. LOUIS -- So the Cardinals didn't make a significant trade before the deadline for the first time since 2008. I say good for them. As sharp as Cliff Lee would look wearing the Birds on the Bat, the Cardinals never were close to a deal, according to a Phillies source. If the Cardinals weren't going to mortgage a big chunk of their future on Lee, no other available...

Xander Bogaerts Or Bust: Phillies Cliff Lee Trade With Red Sox Hinges On Prospect

Wikipedia.com The Phillies very well could trade Cliff Lee to the Boston Red Sox. The deal sounds like it hinges on whether or not the Red Sox are willing to trade their top prospect, Xander Bogaerts . John Tomase of the Boston Herald reports that it's Bogarts or no deal:...

Missing an Opportunity?

It appears that Cliff Lee lacks teams that can take his money and afford the prospect price. Papelbon appears to lack suitors, in part thanks to his contract, but also his big mouth. Michael Young is throwing around his no-trade clause weight to direct his market to a select few...

Peavy pulled from start for ChiSox, Sox biggest player in Lee trade talks

CSN Chicago is reporting that Jake Peavy was pulled from his start tonight with the Chicago White Sox. It doesn't necessarily mean that he is coming to Boston, but we can't rule that out yet. Also, the Sox are still the biggest player in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes. We already know Bogaerts won't be dealt and no other names have been thrown out in the talks. We will...

Ruben Amaro: "Very Little Chance" Cliff Lee Gets Traded; Michael Young Looking "Pretty Remote"

24 hours remain for teams to sell, buy and trade their players in an effort to either clear house or improve their roster for a play off run. The Phillies are definite sellers this July 31st, but so far have not made a fire sale. Unlike last year when the...

Phils could trade Young; Lee deal is unlikely

At 2:57 on a sunny Tuesday afternoon Michael Young was still a Phillie. He leaned over the dugout railing at an empty ballpark and stared at the field while grounds-crew members manicured the grass. He later practiced ground balls with Cody Asche a man 13 years younger who will steal most of his playing time if Young remains a Phillie. Young controls his destiny. It is his contractual...

Michael Young: "I Don't Think We're Anywhere Right Now Where Anything Is Imminent"

Whether you like it or not, Michael Young is the most likely Phillie to be traded before tomorrow's 4 PM ET. deadline. Young, who has been rumored to be involved in a trade that could potentially send himself and teammate Cliff Lee to the Boston Red Sox in return for...

Red Sox Gain Peavy, Lose Little

Earlier Tuesday, a lot of the talk was about whether or not the Red Sox ought to go for it and trade for Cliff Lee. Lee, of course, is an ace, a rare breed, but he’s also paid like one, and reports suggested the Phillies were holding out for a wheelbarrow of prospect talent, along with complete contract assumption. People occupied both sides of the conversation, but it didn’t...

Phillies Win, Team Still Intact

As the rumors fly on Twitter, the Phillies remain whole…for now. They snapped an 8-game losing streak, defeating the San Francisco Giants, 7-3. The game was secondary to everything else surrounding the club. Michael Young, who homered in what could be his final game in a short stint with the Phillies, said he has no idea if anything will happen as the trade deadline strikes at...
