Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee was one pitch away from handing over a 1-0 shutout to Jonathan Papelbon, who has converted all 15 of his save chances this season. But Lee left a 2-2 curveball hanging to Dodgers third baseman Elian Herrera and watched the ball travel all the way to the left-field wall, scoring two runs.

Lee exited with his winless streak intact at nine games.

Despite lowering his ERA to 2.92, Lee doesn't have a win in 2012. He held the Dodgers to two runs on six hits in 7 2/3 innings, striking out 12 and walking one.

"I'm not really frustrated, I'm not," Lee said. "All I can do is throw pitches. I don't set goals that I got to have this many wins or whatever. I just want to put as many zeroes as I can, go deep, throw strikes, don't walk guys, and give a team a chance to win. That's all I can do and that's what I'm going to try to continue to do. Would I like to have a better record or have some wins? Yeah. But what can I do about that?"

The Phillies offense has been to blame. They've scored 16 runs while Lee has been in the game in his nine starts this season, a 2.23 run support average that ranks third lowest among major league starters.

Lee's last win came on Sept. 26, 2011.

"That's baffling because we're a much better ballclub," Juan Pierre said of the Phillies winning three of Lee's nine starts this season. "I know we haven't had the great offense, but he's pitched well enough to have won at least four or five games. We just haven't hit the ball when he's pitched and we haven't scored any runs and we haven't made the plays behind him.

"On all the teams I've been on, it always seems like one guy gets it. You just feel for that guy, especially for as well as he's pitched. Hopefully it will be water under the bridge in August and September."

Lee's 12 strikeouts were a season high and marked the 20th time in his career that he has reached double-digit strikeouts in a game. Lee has 17 double-digit strikeout games since the beginning of the 2010 season, the most in the majors.
