Andrew McCutchen hit a pair of two-run homers and A.J. Burnett pitched six solid innings to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
A day after Detroit's Justin Verlander took a no-hitter into the ninth while shutting out the Pirates, McCutchen went deep twice off Tigers rookie Drew Smyly (1-1). It was McCutchen's sixth career multihomer game and second in three days. He has seven home runs on the season.
Prince Fielder hit a two-run homer for the Tigers, who stranded 10 runners. Burnett (2-2) allowed two runs and seven hits. Three relievers finished it off, with Joel Hanrahan pitching a hitless ninth for his ninth save.
Fielder struck out swinging with a man on first to end it.
Josh Harrison, who broke up Verlander's no-hit bid Friday night, also had Pittsburgh's first hit off Smyly on a bunt single in the first. McCutchen followed with a long homer to left-center.
After Fielder tied it in the third with his seventh homer, ...

I didn't get a recap of last night's game up, but I think that this post will suffice in its place because it's going to say about the same thing that the recap would've. The Pirates won last night because Andrew McCutchen took Drew Smyly deep twice early in the game to give the otherwise lifeless Pirate offense four runs and AJ Burnett was good enough to hold that...
Final: Pirates 4, Tigers 3
WP: A.J. Burnett (2-2, 4.78 ERA)
LP: Drew Smyly (1-1, 2.89 ERA)
SV: Joel Hanrahan (9, 3.07 ERA)
If you hadn’t heard already, Andrew McCutchen likes facing left-handed pitchers. Going into today’s game, he was hitting .314/.390/.539 for his career against southpaws. Well, today he helped out those stats, with not one, but two 2-run home runs off the...

Home Run of the Day: Andrew McCutchen, Pittsburgh Pirates #2 - 23.26* seconds [video]
For the second time in two days, Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen hits two home runs. This time, however, McCutchen two bombs were responsible for all four runs in the Pirates' 4-3 victory over Prince Fielder and the Tigers.

Andrew McCutchen homered twice, James McDonald took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and struck out a career-high 11, and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Washington Nationals 5-3 on Thursday night.
McDonald retired his first 13 batters - striking out nine - and was helped by two spectacular plays on defense, from Casey McGehee at first base and McCutchen in center field. The right...
The Pirates got superb performances early Thursday night from James McDonald and Andrew McCutchen, and were able to hang on to the lead and earn a win against the Nats.
For whatever reason, McCutchen destroys the Nationals. He homered twice off Jordan Zimmermann – four of his five homers this year have come against the Nats. His batting average is up to .349 on the year, and against...
Adam Jones hit another home run on Thursday. So it goes.

Home Run of the Day: Andrew McCutchen, Pittsburgh Pirates #2 - 22.33 seconds [video]
All the talk from this game seemed to center around starting pitcher James MacDonald, who had a fantastic game. He didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning and struck out 11 batters in only 5 â
Yesterday was a pretty good game if you’re a Pirates fan. Minus the Jason Grilli hiccup the bullpen was good, the Pirates had nine hits, Andrew McCutchen continued his torrid pace, Josh Harrison had another solid game, and Joel Hanrahan looked the best he has all year. My biggest positive was that A.J. Burnett pretty [...]
