The Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday acquired minor league righthander Eliecer Cardenas from the Atlanta Braves to complete last month's trade of Matt Diaz.
On Aug. 31, the Braves acquired Diaz from the Pirates for cash considerations and a player to be named. That player is Cardenas, 23, a reliever who pitched in Single-A and Double-A this season.
Cardenas began 2011 with Lynchburg of the Carolina League and was 4-3 with seven saves and an 0.79 ERA in 56 2/3 innings. He was promoted to Mississippi of the Southern League and has been hit hard, allowing 15 hits, six walks and nine earned runs in three innings.
Diaz is eligible for the postseason for the Braves, who currently hold the National League wild card spot.
