Found June 27, 2013 on Pirates Prospects:
Austin Meadows is close to signing. – Image Credit: Getty Images Austin Meadows had the following tweet a few minutes ago: In the Burgh! — Austin Meadows (@austin_meadows) June 27, 2013 Pretty straight forward: he’s in Pittsburgh. I think a lot of people hope that means he’s about to sign. That’s not necessarily the case. Seventh round pick Buddy Borden went to Pittsburgh after the draft, but it was more for negotiation purposes, and Borden still hasn’t signed. Of course, there’s also this tweet by Jon Heyman: #pirates are close to a deal with prep OF austin meadows, the No. 9 overall pick. — Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) June 27, 2013 So it looks like the two sides are close to a deal. I never expected the signing of Meadows to be an issue, even if it didn’t happen instantly like Reese McGuire’s signing. I did talk with McGuire this afternoon, who is friends with Meadows. McGuire will be on the Pirates Prospects Podcast on Monday, but to release part of the show early, here is what he had to say on whether he’s talked with Meadows recently. “I’ve been in touch with him a little bit,” McGuire said. “He said he was still working out negotiations and whatnot. But I think he should be getting down here pretty soon. I’m not exactly sure when. He hasn’t really given me a full answer either.” So even McGuire expects Meadows to sign, and to be down here in Bradenton soon. At any rate, there hasn’t been much to report on Meadows to this point, but now it looks like we’re close to getting the most important news on Meadows in this whole process.

Jameson Taillon Effective for Seven Innings, Even Without Best Stuff

Jameson Taillon allowed zero walks for just the second time all season. Pirates’ top pitching prospect Jameson Taillon did not launch his fastball up to the high-90′s Thursday night in Akron like he has in the past. Taillon’s breaking ball was not missing bats, which meant he got his first and only strikeout in the 6th inning. Despite Altoona’s starter not having his best...

According to Anthony Coleman of the New Jersey Times, the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed 28th round pick Jerry Mulderig out of Rider University. He’s a 6′ 4″, 205 pound right-handed pitcher, although he’s seen very little time on the mound, with just 29.1 innings over the last two years. Mulderig spent most of his time as an outfielder, batting .305 in 112 games, getting...

Gerrit Cole improves to 4-0 in 10-3 rout of Brewers

Final: Pirates 10, Brewers 3 (box) WP: Gerrit Cole (4-0, 3.70 ERA) LP: Johnny Hellweg (0-1, 27.00 ERA) SV: Ryan Reid (1, 1.00 ERA) I guess we will start with Gerrit Cole. But he settled in quite nicely after that and didn’t...

Pirates 10, Brewers 3

Aiming for the perfect West Coast swing

The Pirates are 4-0 on their trip to Anaheim and Seattle and Felix Hernandez is starting against them today. This would seem like a good opportunity to say, "This has been a pretty successful trip, no matter what happens this afternoon." I'm not going to say that, of course, because I want the Pirates to win as many games as possible and Seattle is not that great of...
