It looks like Neal Huntington pulled off one last move before the trade deadline. He shipped Gorkys Hernandez and a draft pick to Miami for 1B Gaby Sanchez and reliever Kyle Kaminska. Just like the Travis Snider move from earlier, this was a decent move but it’s not going to be the difference between the Pirates finishing over .500 and making the playoffs. But with the prices teams were paying for guys like Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence, Huntington probably didn’t have a whole lot of moves since he wasn’t giving up Marte, Taillon or Cole.
It was pretty obvious that Gorkys wasn’t working out for the Buccos - he was 2 for 24 – so at least he’ll get a fresh start closer to home, and the Bucs got a decent piece in return…hopefully. Sanchez is 28, and at 6’1, 230, he could add some more pop to the right side of the plate. He became the Marlins’ starting first baseman in 2010 and in each of the last two seasons he’s hit 19 homers and has driven in a combined 163 runs while hitting .26

Pirates trade Gorkys Hernandez to Marlins for Gaby Sanchez
With the trade deadline rapidly approaching this afternoon, the Pirates sent Gorkys Hernandez and their competitive balance draft pick to the Marlins for Gaby Sanchez and right-handed reliever Kyle Kaminista. Sanchez struggled quite a bit in 50 games with the Marlins this year (.202/.250/.306) and that resulted in a demotion to Triple-A, but prior to this year he posted back-to...
Marlins send 1B Sanchez to Pirates
The Miami Marlins traded first baseman Gaby Sanchez to the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, right-handed reliever Kyle Kaminska and a competitive balance pick, multiple sources reported Tuesday. Sanchez has struggled with a .202 batting average this season and was sent down to the minors July 5 to try to work through those struggles. He hit 19 homers in 2010...

Mets trade dead line update… less then hour to go…
The Mets might have been able to move Tim Byrdak to the Redsox who were looking for a lefty. No dice since it looks like Breslow is heading to Fenway. Gaby Sanchez who has had a rough year with some time in the minors for the marlins has been sent to the Pirates.

The trade deadline is upon us
After swapping Brad Lincoln for Travis Snider last night, I'm guessing that Neal Huntington has fired most of his major trade deadline bullets. There was some thought amongst Pirate fans (not any actual rumors connected to this, just speculation after the Snider trade) last night that Huntington may now flip Starling Marte in a bigger deal since he has another young outfielder...
Pirates Notebook: Profiling the Trade Deadline Additions
In the Past 24 hours the Pittsburgh Pirates have added three big league players and a minor league pitcher to their club. Grading the Pirates’ trade deadline
This year has been the craziest Pirates season we’ve seen since all the losing started 20 years ago. Before the year started, we were just hoping they wouldn’t look as bad as they did when 2011 ended…and maybe finish within 5 games of .500 (we had them pegged for 77-85 in our season preview). Instead, the Buccos are right smack in the middle of a pennant race, and yesterday...
A serious look at the Pirates’ trade deadline
The MLB trade deadline is just over 24 hours away. It was fun picturing Justin Upton in Black & Gold but it’s time for Neal Huntington pull up his business socks because there aren’t a whole lot of sellers at the deadline, and Huntington has to make the best deal possible if the Pirates are going to be serious contenders.
They may have gone 3-1 in Houston but the Buccos were...
Reviewing the Trade Deadline
Buying at the trade deadline has become an objective for Neal Huntington in back to back seasons now. Last year, he swung two deals bringing in Derrek Lee and Ryan Ludwick for cash and a few low level prospects. Everyone knows how the season ended despite getting significant gains from Lee in particular. This season, the Pirates were labeled as buyers yet remained conservative...
