HOUSTON -- Last offseason, Pirates management identified then-free agent Matt Diaz as a player that could provide a veteran bat -- and veteran leadership -- to a young roster. Diaz signed a two-year contract with the Pirates, but he will not finish one year in Pittsburgh. The Pirates traded Diaz to the Atlanta Braves Wednesday for a player to be named later or cash.
