MLB Injury News:
After warming up extensively on Sunday against the Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates' pitcher Jeff Locke was scratched from tonight's scheduled start against the Philadelphia Phillies.
As reported by Steven Petrella of MLB.com,
""Jeff was obviously very aggressive in his bullpen because he was
going in to pitch the 15th inning," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said.
"He's been a very honest self-evaluator for us."
Hurdle hasn't made a decision on a Wednesday starter, but Locke or Jeanmar Gomez will likely get the ball."
Locke was the only starter on the Pirates' staff not to have missed a start this season. In his first full season in the Major Leagues, Locke is 7-1 with a 2.06 earned run average. He has allowed only 66 hits in 96 1/3 innings pitched this season.
For his career, Locke has appeared in 28 games and is 8-7 with a 3.36 earned run average in 147 1/3 innings.

Locke (8-1) was scored upon for the first time in four home starts but extended his unbeaten streak to 16 outings. Locke, who hasn't lost since his first start of the season, allowed two earned...
Big day, as not only do Jameson Taillon and Tyler Glasnow take the mound, there are some other interesting pitchers on the schedule. Altoona was suspended in the first inning of Monday’s game. They will finish that game today, prior to the regularly scheduled game, which will now be seven innings. Bradenton was rained out yesterday. They will make the game up as part of a doubleheader...
Brandon Cumpton will start tonight’s game.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have called up Brandon Cumpton to make tonight’s start against the Philadelphia Phillies. Josh Harrison has been optioned to Triple-A to make room. More to come.

Below are the pitching Game Scores* in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ farm system from the last week. The top ten and the bottom five starts are broken down below the chart. The top five short season pitchers are also highlighted in a separate group, since most of those guys only go 4-5 innings max, and don’t have a good chance of being highlighted in the top ten. The rankings include...
This game turned on a quick sequence in that went like this: Andrew McCutchen single, Gaby Sanchez single on the next pitch, Russell Martin RBI single two pitches later, Pedro Alvarez three-run homer two pitches after that. That turned a frustrating 1-0 Phillies lead into a 4-1 PIrate lead. That gave the second half of the game a very different tone.
Specifically, it was the...
This comes straight from the Pirates themselves, as everyone that covers the team tweeted out something along these lines almost simultaneously:
#Pirates LHP Wandy Rodriguez has been given a PRP injection and will be on a rest, treatment and rehab plan for three weeks, per team.

Phillies (39-44) at Pirates (51-30)
7:05 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh
The best team in baseball hosts their cross-state rivals this week at PNC Park. The Pirates are looking to run the win streak to ten and continue to dominate Philly at home – and unlike past years, the Phils aren’t even playing well. There will surely be plenty of Philly fans in town,...
A month ago, I wrote that it was time to take the Pirates seriously, as their 33-20 record was a strong enough start to put them squarely in the playoff mix, even if we didn’t think they were going to keep playing like a .622 team going forward. Well, since that post was published, the Pirates have gone 18-10, which translates into a .642 winning percentage. Rather than beginning...
It may be a holiday for most people, but there are still seven games on the minor league schedule today. Only Bradenton has the day off. The second half of the season begins tonight, with the Pirates defending the best record in baseball and sending Brandon Cumpton to the mound. That's one crazy sentence. Because of the Pirates' 14-inning game against the Brewers necessitated him to warm up, Jeff Locke's start is being pushed back a bit. Because Sunday was Jeanmar Gomez's day to throw a bullpen session...
