Feliciano could be on his way to the Pirates.
According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com (via MLBTR), the New York Mets may be trading outfielder Jesus Feliciano to the Pittsburgh Pirates. If true, the move would be a strange deal for the Pirates to make.
Feliciano is 31 years old, and made his major league debut in 2010, with a .292/303/.385 line in 65 at-bats so far since his debut on June 10th. He's left handed, 5' 10", 190 pounds, and in five seasons at the AAA level he's combined for a .316/.363/.395 line in 1631 at-bats, with nine homers, and 38 steals in 67 attempts.
Feliciano doesn't look to be more than a reserve outfielder, which is something the Pirates have little need for. He might be a slight upgrade over Delwyn Young right now, but the Pirates have options at the AAA level who would be an upgrade over Feliciano. Those options are the recently acquired John Bowker, who is also left handed, and who is hitting for a .371/.418/.597 line in 62 at-bats since being acquired at the trade deadline for Javier Lopez, after hitting for a .310/.388/.594 line in 197 at-bats before the deadline. Brandon Moss is another left handed option who has been on fire since the month of June, although unlike Bowker, Moss is not on the 40-man roster, making it more likely that Bowker would get the call if the Pirates needed outfield help.
There was also a rumor that Rod Barajas could be involved in a deal, but Barajas was claimed off of waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers. This looks to be a developing story, so I'll keep this post updated as more information becomes available. If a deal is to be reached, it would happen today, as the Mets and Pirates wrap up a three game series this afternoon.
