PREGAME: Mets @ Tigers

Today the Mets (2-1) will travel to Lakeland to take on the Detroit Tigers (1-2) at 1:05 p.m. eastern. Rookie LHP Jon Niese will take the hill today for the Mets as he battles for the fifth spot in the rotation.

The Mets are coming off a one-run loss to the Cardinals yesterday, their first of the spring. However, they have still outscored their opponents 26-12 in three games. Keep an eye on Jon Niese as he makes his first start of the spring while vying for the fifth spot in the rotation, especially since Freddy Garcia has been very unimpressive and Tim Redding is behind schedule.

I've said it all along--I really want Niese to win the job. Let's go Niese, and....
